Haha, I wish I could afford it too. I really shouldn't spend the money either, and it could be used for other things - as usual.

I'm hoping that I will be able to recoup some of the money by keeping about 100 - 1+ year olds growing all winter, so I can graft and sell some or just sell early next year.

That is where I stood also. I wanted to get ahead on the root stock so when active growth started I could begin grafting.

Sorry for bumping up an older thread but I wanted to ask you, jedoba, how high do you hang these panels from the seedlings? A friend gifted me a
Roleadro 45W Grow Panel so I was wondering how far away I'm supposed to
hang this from the seedlings. The paper that came with it states
anywhere from 0.3m to 0.5m but I don't really know anything about LED
grow lights and just curious to know if I have to hang it closer because adenium seedlings may need more light?, or
hang it higher or what...

I keep them 6-8 inches from my seedlings. These lights are really very good for young ones. My bulbs are so cool, I could almost let the plant touch them if I wanted to, but they grow fine @ around 6-8". I recommend you run yours for a few minutes, and touch the bulbs to see if they're warm.

I wound up ordering the Mars Hydro 600.

It should arrive any day now. Just in time, too because some of my outside plants have already yellowed, and dropped the bottom leaves.

I received the 600W unit today and did a little test.

I used a light meter app on my phone to test the 45W and the new one at about 4-6 inches.

On the 45s, I got about 10,000 average.

On the new unit, I got over 100,000, and sometimes over 210,000 at that distance. of course, the new unit says 18"distance, but I still find the light amazing.

Yeah that's what turned me off of those panels. I just do not have that kind of space! And about 80 percent of my plants are slow-growing succulents in 3-inch pots.I get 270k lux from my 6.5kK T5HOs at 3 inches. That's a measure of visible light, of course, and totally irrelevant to the plant. But just to compare.

I didn't realize it until now when I was testing the spread of the light at different heights, but my light meter app tops out at 211k.

I'm just using a repaired hand-held meter that's been in my kit for years. But you can get less expensive versions (about $20 to $40). Again, lux is a measure of light visible to the human eyes. The more relevant indicator is PAR and there are actual equipment for measure photosynthetically active radiation (PAR) but the last time I checked they cost over a couple of hundred dollars. So blegh to that.

Yeah no doubt. I just use the lux for comparison purposes. Those poor PAR meter manufacturers will have one fewer customer with those prices. ;)
