Yeah, you know how drug barons have their mules, we have a pilot and 2 flight attendants transport our stuff for us so we jokingly refer to them as our mules. Actually, we just lost our pilot, he has changed his runs.

So, what was in the package???

I once saw a photo exhibit where each photo illustrated a psychological trait. The photos were of elaborately staged rooms with a theme. One of the photos was titled "Indecision" and it was a photo of a room completely papered with paint chip cards. Another of the photos was either "Obsession" or "Perfectionism" and it was a room with a desk with a partial package of paper laying open and an overflowing wire wastebasket of crumpled papers each with a few words on it

    Linda, kind of OCD?

Judy - I wish I could remember the artist's name as the photos were so funny. It was a series of at least a dozen photos
  • 13 years ago
Do you think this look a bit like "Indecision"? Looks more like my house when BH has put something away, gone out and I needed it 5 minutes ago.

Bobbi, my care package contained birthday presents for two of my grands here, one this weekend, one in a couple of weeks (gift wrapping is my job) some scrapbooking supplies that I need like a hole in the head but were too good a deal to pass up on and some of the local newspapers Miss 6 always seems to get her photo in. She is becoming quite a scene stealer. The best thing was the most luxurious bathmat dd got from Costco, nothing like I have ever seen here, it is so thick and so soft it is pure decadence. BH refuses to have bathmats, absolutely hates them, if there is one on the floor he just kicks in the a heap in the corner - gross. He took the label to buy more for the main bathroom that he uses. He just kept standing on mine for ages. At least it is too thick to just kick in the corner, it would probably bounce straight back at him.

I swear this weather is really getting to me - 32 today, that is crazy, especially for Easter.
Going to wish you all the best Easter hope you really enjoy. I'm going to try and take a break from here, I have such a list for BH to do I really have to start cracking the whip.

Sadly the Easter Bunny is not allowed to call either, got my blood test results and my cholesterol and triglycerides are inching upwards - there is always something. At least everything else checked out very well and these are something I can easily control.

Roo, hope you manage to get some rest over Easter, but it is also rewarding and invigoration to get those jobs done! I have family arriving Saturday morning for Easter weekend, and I planned to take 2 days of work mid week to smarten things up, shop, cook and be very relaxed by the time they arrive! I knew I had to work Friday because my colleague has a day off. So everything had to be done during my 2 days off. However in the end I had to work part of Wednesday. Wednesday afternoon I had to shop for the family weekend and for a celebration we are having at work on Friday evening, which leaves me today to get the house spic and span! Plumber coming later to fit 3 new radiators, so far I have cleaned 1 bathroom, and that gave me a sore back! Have had to stop and have a rest! It is not that long ago since I used to clean my house from top to bottom and be finished by 10 a.m.! I feel old and stiff and I don't like it!
Oh no! The sun has just started to shine and is showing off my very dirty window glass! I don't have time to clean them today! I give up!
Roo! You crack that whip! And you have a very happy Easter too!
    I opened 3/28 with a strange discussion!
roo, my last bloodwork showed the same thing. I've always had excellent cholesterol. I did read recently that eating an apple a day would lower your cholesterol by 40%. Not sure how long you have to eat them before it works, but bought a bag last week and have been munching away.
R's cholesterol was a bit above normal, and he takes fish oil daily, it's helped a lot!
bobbi, great suggestion. Probably why mine went up. I used to take fish oil every day and for whatever reason, stopped. I need to add that in to my routine again.
They make a new fish oil now, it's "burpless" and R says it's a whole lt better :))
Nothing worse than a fishy burp. *snicker*
  • 13 years ago
Just jumped on quickly before I go to bed - EARLY for a change and having a cuppa camomile tea, which has been doing wonders lately. I have never had a cholesterol problem, always around the low 4s, but over the last few years have been eating oats for breakfast as they are supposed to absorb cholesterol and I also take fish oil just to try to stay on top of things. However, I have been slack with that a bit lately so am going to be religious about them again. The triglycerides ............. well I have been pre-empting the Easter Bunning the last few weeks, so he can scooter back down his burrow. Haven't heard about the apples but then they do say "an apple a day keeps the doctor away".

Bobbi, I noticed you asked about my burn. You know that comment wasn't there this afternoon, everything else around it was. I'm finding this a lot, some comments seem to take ages to come through and quite often I then totally miss them. Pleased to say there isn't a trace of the burn. Blisters totally gone, everything quite normal. The cream I have is an absolute miracle worker. If only it worked on wrinkles!!!!!

BTW - this will give you a laugh, I assume you have heard of Elle (The Body) Macpherson, famous Aussie supermodel and so drop dead bloody gorgeous and natural it isn't normal. She has just turned or about to turn 50 and a 15 year old would die for her body. Anyway seems she has been spotted wearing a boulder on her engagement finger and they showed a close up of her hand ............... she has 3 AGE SPOTS!!! She IS normal after all.
Roo, no worries about the email, I totally understand! It's happened to me only about a billion times, getting notification of someone's comment up to two days later! I'm glad your burns have healed, you need to be careful, you know :))

Elle has age spots? Oh, no! Whatever is this world coming to? How will we ever cope? I don't know, I'm going to have to chew on that one for awhile, supermodels getting age spots. Human.....Hmmm.....No, it doesn't compute! I've always thought Christie Brinkley to be the most beautiful of all the supermodels, but her body is getting weird looking, she's working out too much on her Total Gym. Too many muscles, not attractive at all.
Well, if I'm going to have lumps, I think I would rather muscles than just plain bumps.
Ok, you're right! I just don't care for over muscular people, be they men or women.
Ok, here's a dilemma for STK or David or anyone who's in the know.....When we penny tile the shower basin (with real pennies), we plan to penny tile right over the existing basin. So, since there are no cracks or holes or anything, we should be able to just go right over the top of it, right?

And, what do we seal the pennies with? I would like to use the 2-part epoxy resin but R is thinking because of the slope that won't work. I think it will because it's thicker than any other sealer and will flow much more slowly.

I am a little concerned about the weight of it all, though.

    Any opinions?
Wow, bobbi, that has the making of a great thread! Get the popcorn ready. I got told I was a bit rude in a post from yesterday. Someone asked where to buy this console table. That's it. No pics. In design dilemma. I told them shop in person or online. Didn't see what the design dilemma was.

Must be finally reaching a new cracking point. Tired of all the people that come on with no pics and want everyone to decide what they like. "I am going to do a room over. " Okay, houzzers, figure out what room, what color, and how much they want to spend. I guess they think everyone here is adentist that can pull teeth, lol.

You should have alerted us to that narsty thread, I'd have been there for you!
Bobbi...... Christie Brinkley or Elle can eats crackers in my bed anytime ...... age spots or not...... besides, I loves me a good game of connect the dots.... (evil grin).
bobbi..... when you say basin, I'm gussing you mean the shower floor. Exactly what is the current basin made of and how is it finished?
STK, well therein lies the problem. The shower floor is a one piece something or another - the idiot fipper painted it, so I don't know what it was originally! Evil grin! You're so bad! And I doubt they eat crackers, they probably eat nothing.
Bobbi - I've reached a point where if I see responses that begin suggesting redecorating a whole room, when someone has asked a very specific question about whether 2 patterns go together, I'm going all the way out .. and maybe they'll see how ridiculous & unhelpful the suggestions become! I think these people need to sell their house & buy a new one elsewhere, because they've obviously "ruined" the entire neighborhood, with the 2 patterns in their dining room, and the chairs someone else didn't like. In fact the owners are lucky their neighbors haven't filed a class action suit because of the decorating .. and posting about it publicly, which - HORRORS - has devalued everyone's property within a 10 mile radius! Give me a break!!
Holy moley, Astraea! Don't forget to breathe, ok? hehehe I do agree with you though. There's actually a dilemma with almost 1500 comments. What could I possibly add? I don't respond if there are more than 7 comments, I just don't think I could help at that point.

Oh man, I just gave Rocky a bath and now I smell like wet dog. I REALLY need to get me some fragranced soaps.
    last modified: 13 years ago
astraea, it amazes me how many people won't stick to the question asked. If someone asked this question "Do you think this color dress looks okay on me?" The responses would end up being: Okay, first, you need to change the color of your hair, and get it cut in a 70's shag. Your makeup is all wrong, you need to do something about that. Why on earth would you wear those shoes with that dress? I think you need to lose 30 lbs to be able to wear a dress like that. Oh, pleeease tell me wear you bought those earrings! You aare too old to wear a dress like that.

Since April fools day is fast approaching, I think we should get together and come up with a great dilemma, so totally outrageous that no one could answer it. Or we all swear to give ridiculous answers like we usually see for just one day, lol.

Since it's a one piece, I'm suspecting that it's most likely a fiberglass type shower base and since he "painted" it........the thing is suspect now. How did he paint it? What type of paint did he use? How good is the bond between the paint and the original material? To many questions that become variables in the decision making process.

My main concern is that most fiberglass shower basins are somewhat flexible. While it maybe tempting to overlay the existing basin with your pennies and epoxy, even if you can get a good seal coast, my concerns would be 1.) the tendency of fiberglass to flex.........epoxy or resin doesn't tend to flex, 2) both epoxy and resin become very slippery when wet. Personally, I'm shakey now in my own bath tub/shower and my tub is rather old with a dull and pitted finish........I'm not so sure I would be comfortable standing on a sloped wet resin or epoxy shower floor. Having gown up in Florida and making my share of surfboards, I can attest to the slippery nature of resin.........that's why we (surfers) will rub layers and layers of wax on the surfboard deck to maintain traction.

Bobbi, if it were my project, I would tear out the old unknown basin and start from scratch with a proper mud base, shower membrane tied into a clamp down shower drain ring and finished with a mud base for your finish. My next step would be to glue my pennies to 12" square pieces of fiber net and then install these squares into a thinset bed as cleanly as possible, then I would grout with non sand grout (color of your choosing)..........but that's just me.
handymam..... I like the way you think..............
STK, now I think of all of us here, YOU would be the one that could come up with the most convoluted tale to ask a question! Come on, let's do it! You ask the question and we can all respond!
bobbi "Where can I buy console table?" is still going on about how I was rude...lol. Not answering it again.
OMG, STK! Ok, it doesn't flex at all, the paint isn't chipping or peeling. I had one of those bath sprayer people out to coat it and he did say his coating wouldn't stick and thought it might be travertine. I think the reason the IF painted it is because it was too stained to leave it as is. The prev owner took everything with her that she could - including the bathtub (front bath) and the front door. I do believe the IF's profit margin was slim and he was looking to save costs everywhere he could. There was a $50K diff between his purchase and selling price and he had A LOT to repair and replace.

Ok, no resin. We're not interested in removing the basin because God only knows what we'll find, and a simple small project will snowball into something over our heads, both skill and $$$ wise.

We do plan to glue the pennies to 12" square pieces of fiber net, so thinset is what you'd recommend? Is that the same as mastic for ceramic tiles? We have that in the garage along with unsanded grout but it's dark brown so we'll probably go with a diff color. Thanks so much for all your advice, please don't quit on me!
HandymaM, post a link! I'll get 'em, I'm in the mood.....
bobbi if it's stone that's a good thing.........okay, let's assume that the base is travertine or some other type of stone material. Flex doesn't become a problem, but getting a good surface to bond on is a must. Try and remove the paint film completely. you might have to use a chemical stripper (wear breather mask and wear gloves). Once you get down to the original stone, I would wash and scrub thoroughly with a diluted solution of pool acid........you don't want any body oils or soap scum to remain.

Mastic is fine to use in setting your pennies, just make sure it's compatible with your grout........and have fun.
oh... and handymam.... I'll think of something.
STK, thanks! I will pass it on to hubby! It's good to have at least guidelines to follow, I very much appreciate your help and advice :))
Y'all are so bad. I'm in! *LOL*

We'll have to come up with an imaginary name, like 'Desperate in Detroit' or something that!
I've got it; a friend just sent me an e-mail with a whole bunch of incredible photos. I've posted 1 here. How about this question to go with it: I'm being transferred to Mumbai for work, and am renting one of these apartments. Do you think anyone could see if I was skinny dipping?

BOBBI, had to reply to the Nancy. Couldn't help myself. :>) You bait me.

Hi, all, just couldn't stay away, but this will definitely be a quick in and out.

Thanks for the warning Kutchie, I must never come near you, it would take you weeks to join all the dots here your wife would divorce you.

I'm in on the April Fool - I will have had 24 hours to warm up, heehee. Wouldn't you have to rejoin to post a fake name?

And on the subject of dilemmas, I was reading one yesterday where the poster wanted a room done in a house she hadn't even bought, everyone was making the usual suggestions and she came back with I don't know how to do it, somebody tell me how. Short of saying, read the suggestions and make a bloody decision or don't buy the house, I opted right out.

Bobbi, I'm a bit worried you are going to bite off more than you can chew with your pennies.

Well, can't believe Good Friday, sun is shining, not a cloud in the sky but the temp is down to 18. Topped at 33 yesterday, so this is such a relief.
Roo, I think we should all take fake names and post separate dilemmas! Well, Happy Good Friday to ya, hope your weather stays nice!

Holy moly, busy's post from 20 hours ago just came through. Easter will be over at this rate. Just stopped for an afternoon coffee. BH is getting very weary, have I been cracking the whip.

Busy, I can't agree with you more, how the heck did we get so much housework done in so short a time. I'm starting months in advance now, when I feel the need for a special clean, like I am doing now, as well as trying to finish off things. I am now just trying to go through the house on a regular basis, if it takes me a week, a fortnight or a month, as soon as I finish I start over. I'm just doing room by room, deep cleaning everything, that way it keeps it all down to a dull roar and if the unexpected happens, I know I just have to do a quick vacuum through the main walk areas.

I must admit I am finding the new bathrooms amazing. My new shower heads have a jet spray and when I finish my shower I jet spray the whole area and then use a squeegee to dry the tiles and the glass. I then finish drying the glass with a towel. It is 6 months now and I have not had to do any heavy scrubbing of the shower recess and it is spotless. I wipe the vanity and clean the loo as I go and a few times a week vacuum and mop the floor. The bathroom is no longer a chore - loving it.

Hasn't got above 20 deg today, so good, we have got so much done.
