That is interesting. Both grasses would go brown in really cool weather.
Way back when there was a guy on this forum who took care of two golf courses just north of Lake Erie. People gave him a hard time about his approach because it wasn't supposed to work. He was getting really good results growing a mix of Dutch white clover and creeping bentgrass. Before he got there it was all bentgrass and weeds. He said the soil was so hard a ball would bounce 40 feet as if it hit concrete. He converted to 100% organic and, following a very quick turn-around in turf quality, he went to 100% natural program. These owned by the home owner association, par 3, and in adjacent neighborhoods. He had to fight the home owner associations when he told them he would discontinue using fertilizer, herbicide, and insecticide (used to kill earthworms). Nobody played the courses during the week so he allowed the grass to grow until Friday. Then he mowed Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. On Thursday it was a field of white flowers full of bees. He mowed with a gang of reels pulled by a small tractor. The 7-blade reels chopped the clover flowers into little pieces and he didn't have anything to pick up. After a year the people there loved him.
