floor plan help

Hi, I'm writing to ask you old house people with some floor plan help for my 1880 (?) folk victorian. It was turned into a duplex at some point (badly), and we're trying to turn it back into a single family house. I'm trying to figure out what the ground floor floor plan should be. Current plan:

https://docs.google.com/drawings/d/1-jxEcEvrKIZ2oBdpegXuEaXTnEAujtkO3sxt3_n6eJc/edit?usp=sharing

The box on the wall between living room and spare bedroom is the fireplace - one chimney, two mantels.

There are two weird/annoying features of the current plan. First, it seems like there should be a door from the front hall into the living room - yes? And should it be a single door, or double pocket doors?

Second, having to go outside to get to the laundry room seems wrong. The kitchen & dining room were added long before the house was turned into a duplex (we think), so should there be a door between kitchen and laundry room? Or would that whole wall have been added later?
We've only lived in the house for a few months.

So far, we've insulated the attic floor, replaced some broken window panes, removed the upstairs kitchen, and painted. We don't want to open the house up like it's new construction, but it feels very weird to walk in the front door, through the entry hall into a second hall, and then turn around to walk into a living room that faces the street.
