Be still my heart. As a craftsman lover, this just floats my boat. Everything about it. The QSO cabinets, the green backsplash, the counters that look like soapstone, the accent tiles, the wood floors, the rug and especially the Arroyo Craftsman fixtures. (I have a bunch of Arroyo Craftsman fixtures that I took from my condo and plan to use in my new build)

It's just stunning.

Love it!!! Love all of it, but if I had to pick a favorite thing, would have to say your accent tiles. But I refuse to choose between the dragonflies and the tree of life!

I LOVE that granite! Was it desperately expensive? We were going to go with soapstone, but were turned off by the maintenance and cost. We went with Formica, but might go with a real stone someday in the future.

Oh, I just LOVE your kitchen!! Every choice is perfect! The Fireclay backsplash is so perfect with your cabinets...and the counters...oh, those counters!!! I could live and work in that kitchen for the rest of my life and be deliriously happy with it!!! Great taste and great job!!

It all works together beautifully, I'm so happy for you! Love the tree of life and dragonfly tiles. My counters are similar (but polished) and I have been so happy with them! Fun to look with a magnifying glass sometimes, and to find that there are places with so much iron that a magnet sticks.

mushcreek -- the granite was less expensive than soapstone. We needed two slabs, so it was more than we were hoping to spend...but we love it!

I LOVE your kitchen. It's refreshing to see a kitchen reveal that's not all white. I'm astonished that the QS oak was cheaper than cherry. I put cherry cabinets in a few years ago believing QS was more expensive (sigh). That backlash is stunning and all your choices make for a warm and inviting feel.

Very pretty! I love the cabinets and the granite. I generally don't care for black granite but yours is beautiful.

lindanewc -- we also assumed quartersawn oak was more expensive than cherry. Just for kicks, I asked to see the qso samples, but told the KD that I knew it was out of our price range. He was like, huh? It's actually a lower price point! So happy to have made that discovery BEFORE we ordered.

Very nicely done! I love the buffet that you have across from the island. Would be a great place to place hors d’oeuvres and drinks. I absolutely love that tree tile. Trees are my favorite thing in the world, living or replicated. Congratulations. Looks like it will be a blast to work in.

I am not a fan of wood tone (especially oak) kitchen cabinetry. BUT - your kitchen is stunning! I love every aspect of it!

Very nice! QS oak or cherry and dark counters are at the top of my list for the home I will be building next year. It is so nice to see something other than white on white with a splash of white as an accent which is all the rage these days it seems. I've bookmarked this thread for future reference.

Wow, really beautiful. I've always wanted to do a black granite counter with stained wood cabinets, but was afraid that it would be too dark. But thanks to your pics, I can see that it works.

I think also, like anglophilia said, the bright bs makes the difference.

Would you mind sharing your floor details, that's the other part I'm struggling with, the wood contrast between floor and cabinet.

The floor is unstained/natural red oak. We were worried it would all be too dark so we put in a lot of lights! It's very bright in there now.

Did you mention the name of the granite somewhere in this thread? I just re-looked and didn't see it.

It's Via Lactea (also called Via Lattea), in a leathered finish. ETA: my husband just reminded me that it's also called Milky Way.

Finally someone else who loves oak! We have oak in our kitchen also. We love it. Ours is the golden oak that everyone seems to hate now, but we still love it. I hope that is changing. Oak is a great hard wood, with a wonderful rustic grain that runs through it, wonderful character! I think that it will stand the test of time. I also love, love,love your granite, because it looks so much like the soapstone, which I have wanted for yrs, but haven't been able to afford yet. Your kitchen is beautiful! Hopefully, tastes now are moving away from the standard white or black recessed panel cabinet that everyone seems to want now.

I think I have the exact same one ( mine is an induction) and I'm having a problem with it I didn't anticipate. I'm only 5 feet tall and I find using the back burners I keep turning the darn thing on when I lean over!

I ordered the Super-Loc rug pad with it. But first, I ordered the smaller 3x5 to make sure I liked it, then ordered the 6x9. It was going to be easier to return the smaller one if needed. So far, it hasn't curled at the edges and doesn't seem like it will. We've used corner curl-stoppers on other rugs in our house, and they work very well. The red color looks like fresh blood.

Rebecca -- we bought the range in November. Before the reno, I found the back burners hard to reach because the hood was so low. But now there's much more room. I'm 5'7, so I don't bump the controls...

I like the GE range a lot. I was very worried about the layout and ability to use several large pots at once. I haven't been hindered once.

you really hit the sweet spot with abundant storage, yet a balanced, not heavy looking space. Every area plays well against the others. I know you worked on those measurements and it paid off in a big way. So very wonderful.

I've looked at Fireclay tile over and over, and this is why. What a beautiful kitchen you've built.

I love so much about your kitchen! I'm excited to see a beautiful example of stained wood cabinetry with black granite. So many of your elements are things we have planned for ours, so it's wonderful to see it in a living kitchen instead of just in my mind's eye.

We're going with a very similar granite on our perimeter. We're deciding between two granites, American Black and Virginia Black. Both are suede finished, which I suspect is similar to leather. It feels fantastic!

Due to getting things in line with our budget we're now going with cherry cabinets with a caramel stain (that cuts the cherry/pink coloring). So, like you, we'll have a midtone wood color.

I love your green tile. We are either going with white and a small accent color line, or like you with one bold color (blue).

I'm also excited about your buffet/pantry area. It looks fantastic. We have something similar planned. Although, ours is a smaller scale than what you have. How do you like the depth? Ours is a bit shallower than yours; 12" in center, and 11" on each side. Has the aisle width been sufficient? We're also at 39" between our pantry and prep island, because I wanted storage (9") on the backside of the prep island for things like the blender and the smaller Magic Bullet, which get used daily.

Oh Pippiep! I am so happy for you. What a treat for me to open GW today and get to see this gorgeous eye candy. It turned out perfect. I love every last detail.

Cheryl -- The 39" aisle feels spacious! We have coffee/tea maker stuff on that bit of counter, so someone might be standing there for a minute or two, but it hasn't been an issue. We must've had narrower aisles at our last house. I even put one of our old stools next to the pantry so that someone can pull it up and sit at the island (without overhang, though, so not for very long!)

We don't have shelves in the pantry yet... (arriving shortly, I hope!) but I think we will like the depth. Things won't get lost. I love having the shallow cabinets on the non-working side of the island. So far, we've loaded that side up with baking dishes and platters, surprised at the things that fit. We have framed cabinets, so they must be around 10-11" deep inside, not the full 12".

To all -- thank you for the compliments! I absolutely love this kitchen. My husband cooked a big meal yesterday (chicken marsala, YUM) while I cleaned around him, put things away, and dealt with school things. We weren't cramped or crowded at all!

One happy accident is that the dishwasher and trash pullout can be fully open at the same time without bumping. We didn't plan that, didn't even think of it. But it worked out by a couple of inches!

LOVE the Servo-Drive.

I was indecisive about whether I wanted the middle of the pantry hutch to stick out past the pantry cabinets or be recessed, but in the end I love the recessed look!

I think I also forgot to mention that the undercabinet lights are Hafele Bali LED (I think).

I had questioned my cabinet maker and was told Qtr Sawen Oak cost more than Cherry, I too am tired of Cherry and thinking of going with Maple or something else. But you mentioned it was cheaper than Cherry.

Good to hear! We won't be standing long in front of ours either, plus we have two doorways into the kitchen, one on each side of the hutch/pantry, so I think a lot of traffic will route through the other doorway and not pass between the prep island and pantry. (The other doorway is a straight shot to the refrigerator, beverage drawers, and mw and comes in directly from the living room.) Currently in our old kitchen we have a narrow 36" bottleneck where the refrigerator and freezer open opposite the computer and charging station. I think after living with that almost anything will feel spacious.

RE: shallow cabinets on backside of island, even frameless cabinets lose depth when you account for the cabinet back and the door, so our 9" will result in ~7.5" of shelf. Still enough depth to be useful for many items.

Your kitchen is so beautiful. The quarter-sawn oak is so wonderful.

Visceral reaction here to your pictures; I smiled and smiled, and smiled. What a happy space. Loved finding that Fireclay was part of the story and loved the accent pieces (I think I poo-poo'd them in an earlier thread, wrong once again!). The shortened wall looks just right and you obviously hit another home run with the UCL lighting, because the tile, oh the tile, looks so good! --happyOldBat :) (Waving to eam44 who will be here shortly I know. Honey, sit down, I've reserved a couple chairs, we can stay and watch and dream for a bit).
