I wouldn't go for either of those colours. I'd rather find something that tones in with your living room blinds and your kitchen cupboards (not unlike the colour of your existing unit). My alternative would be something creamy, that picks up the colour of your rug and the lighter colours in your kitchen counter tops.

Of the photos above, I'd vote for the middle image. You need something lighter and lower. As it is, that large unit competes with the fireplace as a focal point. I'm afraid the black would do the same thing, even though it's not tall.

Here is an alternate point of view to consider. Even with the lighter cabinet that would blend in with the wall color your cabinet is not enclosing the TV so you still have the big black void of the TV screen. Your kitchen island is black so I vote for black like your TV screen. Together they look like one thing. Your fireplace, window treatments, furniture choices - all very nice. To enhance your fireplace as a focal point consider placing a stunning and large - almost as wide as your mantle - piece of artwork on the mantle, the 'M' and perhaps the lantern currently on the entertainment cabinet and nothing else. Do not add ornamentation to the TV cabinet so it stays low key.

One other question... For the kitchen area .... I am looking at doing some changes and wanted to do a small farm like table in that kitchen dinette area.... Would it b to much if I did a black/brown stained table. Currently have a black pub table there... Which is temporary

A table with some ironwork would be nice in your space. The picnic type bench doesn't seem right for your space but I could see a more tailored bench on the living room side of your table. Love the chairs
