My Small Old House Kitchen Remodel

Here's a slide show of my small kitchen remodel. It is a 1923 house, and the kitchen is about 100 square feet. I love the breakfast nook and insisted we keep it in the remodel. It really is quite functional, and I drink my morning coffee there every day. I have always lived in older homes and such built ins have always seemed to me completely practical.

I posted this on Kitchens and someone immediately yelled at me because he/she said the slide show was "annoying". I guess it was the forum police? Anyway, it is all I have right now to post and I do hope you enjoy it! The remodel was truly a labor of love.

    I love it.

Very cute kitchen. I'm so glad you kept the nook! And I love your dining room, too.

That is a picture perfect house! Straight out of a storybook. May you live happily ever after :-)

    Perfect.

I love your kitchen; I'd be very proud to have something that lovely in my home!

Gorgeous kitchen. Love the breakfast nook.

it's a lovely kitchen! what'd that person want - you to knock down a wall, build out the back?

I love the LR and DR too. love those DR cabinets! I do love old homes - I was raised in them.

Picture perfect. (Though I do wonder how the 69% of Americans over age 20 who are overweight or obese will slip into the nook without a shoehorn.)

What a nice job you did! Congratulations - such a cute little home. Love the woodwork, such gorgeous moldings. You really respected the architecture and it shows.

I didn't see the living room and dining room the first time I watched the slide show. I am just drooling over those too. Cassandra, can you give the lengths of each side of your kitchen with cabinets? How well does it function when you cook? Are your sink and DW standard sizes or smaller?

What is the room with the radiator in it?

I keep trying to design our kitchen in our next place and I keep thinking there is just no counter space to work on. But there is a corner similar to yours which looks small when I am setting in individual cabinet pieces in the program, but looks much bigger in yours.

Very nice. What is to the right of the nook, where the radiator is?

And that is one TINY kitchen!

Yes, I'd like to know the size of your sink, also.

lazy_gardens I totally agree it is one tiny kitchen . But when they are as well laid out as this one is tiny functions wonderfully. I have ,for me, a big kitchen 12 by 10 with miles of counter it seems when it comes time to wipe them down. I end up using the three foot to the right of the sink 98% of the time and nothing else but to hold the coffee and tea pots and toaster. Shrug. I would be very happy in this kitchen. Well done Casandra.

I don't use all my counter space either Chris. I use about 4 feet to the left of my stove. I do put dirty dishes on the counter beside the sink, lol, but that's about it.

I'm not one for putting canisters or any kind of clutter on the counter. I have some now for showing and I keep wanting to move it off.

    The forum police. lol

Edited again to ask Cassandra: Where is your post on the Kitchens forum? I've been studying your kitchen to see how to make my plan more efficient and don't want to keep asking you questions about sizes etc if you already have it there.

As another old house owner and one who loves them, I think your kitchen is just wonderful. Love the nook, we hope to add one, love the colors, love the stained wood, love the comfortable rooms.

    VERY nice.

Wow. Just wow! So beautiful. I love that style of house and yours is spectacular!!

    Love this. Well done!

    GORGEOUS. I LOVE IT.

Very nice job, I prefer older homes also, they have tons of character as yours does.

Lovely kitchen, however those dining room corner built ins deserve to be in their own slide show with some close ups :)

I love it! I'm interested in knowing about the counter. I can't tell if it's soapstone, granite, or a Formica-type surface. It's beautiful. Do you have an 18" dishwasher? I have a small kitchen too but no dishwasher and I've been researching options.

I wasn't able to view it. Does it require a password?

It looks like she's changed it to private.

    I wasn't either.

The link said melancholy's library was private. So much for the invite to see her remodel!

I am curious to see it too, is it possible to view it some other way?

I do subscribe to Photobucket- or anything like Facebook, Twitter... I would love to look at your kitchen! It is sad that you /others want to redirect others to unwelcome apps. Wish you would keep things on Gardenweb!

Wonderful! What is on the side of the refrigerator nearest the doorway? Can you attach a picture? Thanks
