Bushes? I see ornamental grass and trees in your photo. I think the varied landscape adds more interest than just plain grass.

If you would like to have sod, I would suggest keeping a perimeter area (around the sod) that will have shrubery and grasses (and possibly trees). Having the perimeter areas planted with these taller plants and trees of varying heights will add interest and provide privacy from your neighbors.

IMO with all the water shortages and environmental problems with gardening chemicals grass should be the last thing anyone is choosing to put in.

If box is on your property, hide it with bushes, etc...

I think your backyard would look best if the garden edges were defined better with a small basalt stone garden-wall or even a 4x6 pressure treated lumber. A "Dutch hoe" garden tool will help easily get the weeds & grass removed. Use boxwood to hide the green electrical box if need be. Top up the garden bed with some hemlock/fir mulch if you can, and the garden will be looking sharp in no time!
