LOL, Madonna, I always thought Crenshaw was a melon, so I was confused! Huge? Sounds like the Hubbard squash Grandma used to grow, she chopped the things up with a hatchet and baked pieces because that's the only way they fit in the oven.

I grew Cashaw Squash this year. You are correct! They are monsters but I don't think they will keep like Hubbard Squash do. I am wondering what to do with them. Would freezing them in chunks be the best way to keep them. I must have 10 to 20 in the patch.

I prefer canning them - keeps much longer than frozen. But freezing either in blanched chunks or 1/2 cooked puree work well. Easy to turn into soups or roasted, or in casseroles during the winter.

Thanks everyone for your input. I will probably can in chunks. The one site I found had a really good recipe for a soup. It would be good to have the chunks on hand to turn into soup. If I find the site again, I'll post it on here.
