DR Progress-Slowly but Surely

New light fixture is up, lowered compared to old one. It's lower than it looks in the photos. I got some plain drapes, but they looked more tan than ivory so I got these with a blue floral pattern. If I keep them, wil rethink painting on wall as it has more teal than blue. Linen Roman shade in ivory is on back order from Country Curtains, ugh. They are so slow. Once I receive it, I will make final drape decision.

I think I need a rug-too much brown going on. I also might put one leaf in the table. I will add accessories and possibly new fabric on chairs once I get everything else figured out. I can't really get a pic of the whole room with the window due to the angle. Need DH to take a good one with his fancy camera!

Roman shade finally arrived, and it is up. I am very happy with the quality of it. I knew it was going to be a tight fit for an inside mount and it ended up having to be outside, oh well. I am thinking I might get some kind of hold-back for the drapes since I have enough fullness and I don't really like the look of all that rod at the top.

I put a small orchid on the table, but really want to do something like this in an elongated bowl. Potted Orchid

I have looked at many fabrics for the chairs and am leaning toward this solid bluish gray velvet, but probably should wait until rug for final decision. I love the way this fabric changes depending on the light in the room.

I had to make an unexpected trip to Dallas, we are leaving for Europe shortly and my dad has been really ill, so I have been sidetracked. Overall, I am happy with it for now until I am able to put the finishing touches on it.

Lovely, the lighter wall showcases your beautiful furniture. Cant really see the rug in the photos clearly, but you dont think it would work with your lighter wall?

The room looks lighter and fresher, but I would agree that you badly need a rug for some added color and warmth. I would think about putting one print on each side of the hutch and the small plates rather than two, or something a little more colorful than these particular prints. I'm sorry to say that I feel the new chandelier looks too modern and plain to go with your more traditional furniture. I rather liked the fabric you had on your chairs originally unless it is too worn, and the colors would go well with the new wall paint. I wouldn't worry too much about the colors in your painting matching the curtains. Perhaps you can repeat the teal color in the rug, if you decide to get a new one.

Wow, when you decide on a change you go all out! I think it looks really lovely. I love your painting in the room and would keep it. I also love your drapes and I am imagining it all probably looks great together, not matchy but great.

What kind of rug are you thinking? From a distance the chair seats look great although I could also see going with a blue and white thing as well. It is SOOO much lighter and brighter in there!

Wondering if a light rug or rich rug would look better? With such a lovely and fairly neutral base I think a lot of possibilities could be open!

How calming! Love the chandy. I would add something light to the table (a bowl or something?) and fabric to the chairs. I also agree about a rug.

Looking so nice!. Light and airy in comparison, in addition to the rug, I would also probably frame the hutch with some art on each side.

I like the new wall color. I may be the only one here, but I would paint the chair rail back to white or remove it. If you keep it, the contrast would be much softer with the new wall color. The other things have already been mentioned.

RoseAbbey brings up a point I never thought of before - the lighter walls DO make the furniture stand out more. Never realized how much difference it can make.

Love the new color. How about adding square raised panel wainscot? That would give the chair rail a purpose.

More blue! Perhaps a blue and white ceramic vase for your table, or blue in a table runner, as well as in your rug.

Love the room, especially the paint color and the fabric choices. I agree about a table runner with some blue.

Hope your father is feeling better soon, so you can enjoy your trip without worries...
