i had gotten one (3gal) in the spring. it was already 5ft tall when i planted it.

by mid-summer it had a huge crop, so much , the tree bent over and touched the ground... i supported it with a bamboo pole and when the fruit ripened i had cut it back hard.

shorter branches, shorter tree etc...

its already flowering again.

The first fruit i had from it was excellent (6 fruits) . But the ones after (about 40ish) were not so good.

it might have had to do with the weather. we had a LOT of rain.

and i would suggest to also thin the fruit-set by %20 to %30, especially if your getting a large crop all at once.

Obviously they dont mind at all being cut back. mine bounced back with a lot of vigor.

I think you hit on it..too much water probably lowered the sugar level. Pre rains gave you the better flavor. Here Larry,it will never be over watered-lol. My wife is from the tropics so no point in my growing something that wont taste "like home". Lemon Guavas are a great start for exotic fruit growers.

Well,the exception would be the Papayas..they just look so cool and tropical fruiting or not.
