Applying Flase Eyelashes

So I take it this is a kind of anything goes forum? Anyone here like to share their technique on applying false eyelashes? My real lashes used to touch my eyebrows (sigh). They would hit my eyeglasses. After I had my baby and I didn't always have the luxury of spending so much time perfecting my lashes, I decided to buy flash eyelashes to save time. I saved more time than I ever thought I would...after a few months, ALL my real lashes fell out from the glue :( I wasn't yanking them out when taking off the falsies, the glue was eating away at them. That was 34 years ago. Surely the glue is less harsh/safer. I watched a video last night and if I saw right, she didn't put the lash rim right at the base of her real lashes. She first applied some mascara and then glued the falsies a tiny bit out from the base of the lash line. Then used black eyeliner to cover up the glue. Maybe that's how it's done now?

So if you use them do you have any suggestions for glue that doesn't dissolve your own lashes, tips for applying, brands you've discovered are better than others? This will just be for evenings out.

Thanks

I don't use them but just watched a youtube video by Dominique Sasche (Sache?), a news anchor in the Houston area, who demonstrated how to do them and recommended a brand she likes. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=43xibR5iCbI If this link doesn't work, it was her recent Fall Make-up tutorial.

Of all the false eyelash videos in all the world, be both watched the same one <lol> I will fast forward to the eyelash part and see if I saw what I thought I saw last night. Thanks

    What about Latisse?

Probably more than I'd want to spend and I'm not fond of the possible side effects. If anyone will have them, it'll be me :o My lashes are not short by any means and they're thick enough but I just WANT the longer look that I used to have. Plus, I have to sleep on my left side due to my lower back problem so my left eyelashes, from being slept on all the time, are a bit thinner, shorter and than the right. They don't "feather" as nicely as the right side. It's an obsession :/

Oh, I thought they never grew back after the glue pulled them out.

    Linelle, just read this...

The type of eyelash glue you use may also affect your natural lashes.
Long-wearing eyelash glues are made of stronger chemicals and are
designed to keep lashes in place for several days. Thus, it puts more
strain on the natural lashes. However, even false lashes that are
applied with standard glue can cause natural lashes to fall out or be
pulled out in some cases. This is not permanent damage. Eyelashes will
grow back within six to eight weeks.

That's probably how long it took mine to regrow (I was 22). Seemed like MONTHS! I was hoping the product had greatly improved by now.

    I found the "solution"! Yeah!!

    Solution:

One way to prevent damage to natural lashes is to not wear false eyelashes.

LOL, have you tried a Primer? I reviewed some products I bought on line here a while back, and I dissed the primer as too goppy. It is by Lancome. I bought a primer and mascara from Lancome.

In the meantime, I discovered that the Lancome primer with my old mascara, Chanel, works great. YMMV

    I like this youtube gal:

    emilynoel's false eyelash tutorial

Emily is also a news personality. It's been a while since I watched this but she normally talks about Revlon's lash glue as the one she uses.

Have you tried "permanent" false lashes? They are applied individually and lasted a few months for me.

I have eyelash extensions and I love them. LOVE them a ridiculous amount. It's basically an extension applied to each individual eyelash. The first session took about 2.5 hours, and now I go back about once every 4 weeks or so for a 'fill'. They can make them as natural looking or dramatic as you wish. I first told the technician that I wanted a 'better, fuller version of my own lashes'. I don't bother with daily mascara or eye make up anymore and I can't believe how awake and brighter-eyed they make me. I honestly never would have believed how much I was going to love having these lashes. lol

smhinnb- Can you do the bottom and the top or just the top? I have been considering.

Brow/lash bars are a big thing here! I haven't had my lashes done bc I am too antsy to sit that long, lol, but the extensions look amazing.

Smhinnb, maybe that's what I did wrong-I didn't comb them out after getting wet because mine looked good for about a week and then got clumpy and didn't last very long. I also wasn't told to use oil free products. I never made it to the "fill" stage because they started bugging me-especially after my own eyelashes were growing-some of the extensions were growing too, which made then too long, so I had to eventually pull them off, which left me with hardly any of my own lashes. They also started sticking straight out very stiff-like they lost their curl. I did buy a tool to curl them (since you can't use regular eyelash curlers) but couldn't get it to work properly. But, it doesn't sound like I took care of them correctly.

I have done Latisse for a couple of years now and love it. I have baby blue grayish eyes and and have never had any side effects. Also, I was told that you use half dose of what was recommended to use on (tiny) bottle and it worked wonderfully, so lasted a lot longer.

Wanted to add: Before the extensions and Latisse-I went to the MAC counter and picked out the style of eylelashes and they put them on you for free. I picked the shortest and most-natural ones- I did that for years for going to dinner with friends and special occasions. Got expensive. But, if I could master putting on false eyelashes-I wouldn't mind that either.

I'm another Latisse lover. I have blue green eyes and have had no color change after 10 years of use. I never had lashes before. Lashes make a huge difference for me, whether I'm made up or not. I have lots of friends who do the lash extensions but I don't want the commitment to the upkeep. Also, for years I have purchased the eye drops that are the ingredient of Latisse. I refill my Latisse tube that has the applicator and it's about a third the cost of a new tube of Latisse.

Olliesmom, I know there are different brands of lash extensions.... Lash Forever, Misencil, Babe.... maybe not all lashes are created equal?? Nor all last technicians. You obviously didn't have a great experience.... that would definitely be disappointing & frustrating - the first set isn't cheap!

I have eyelashes. Lots of them. Most 57 yo women wouldn't dream of needing more lashes. I just want longer lashes like I used to have when I was younger. If I were to go to a Dr for Latisse, they'd probably laugh me out of the office. Extensions would be great but due to debilitating back issues, there is no way I could sit/lean back that long and then have to go for refills so often. And of course there's the expense of extensions. So my only alternative is falsies. I'm just not willing to even do that if I run the risk, again, of losing my lashes (even if it is temporarily). My REAL lashes used to look like false lashes. Age and illness have not been nice to them tho.

Monica, you're the perfect candidate for Latisse.
