It's a combo dining room and formal living room. Picture of the whole room is attached. it's getting dark here so it is dark! I am not sure what type of chairs to get opposite the sofa. I was thinking white or cream but i have young kids with perpetually sticky hands.

See). It's always weird when you walk into a room and it feels like everything is just pushed back as far as possible towards the walls. Having furniture placed in different positions besides the walls creates dimension and interest

That's a good point havingfun made. If you love the view and moving it would not give you as good a view, then don't move it

this room is beautiful and I love everything you are buying for it. I do agree that currently having everything against the wall is doing very little justice. I would leave the couch where it is, but pull it forward about a foot. add a thin table behind it with decorations. add two oval tables to each side. love the rug...you need some chairs. i like the idea of the low swivel leather type. this is all assuming there is no tv plans. if you want to add a tv...everything changes as seating would need to be altered

I was thinking a rug with a little bit of sheen, like part viscose. The room seems to be heading towards a glam kind of look.

Literally keep the exact set up, but move it away from window (sofa, chairs, and rug).
Sofas should never be pushed up against a wall unless absolutely vital!!

This may be a bunch of hocus pocus to you, but they teach us to leave some space between furniture and wall for "energy flow." But in the design world, it is just considered to look better. It's your house though, and design should take that into account!!:)

Thanks for the ideas. ☺ I am taking my time decorating so at my rate since I just got the swivel chairs, it will probably be a few months at least until I decide on the other it's for the room. I wish I was more decisive but these ideas help me narrow things down

Just in case you want a light and bright space....what about a lighter traditional style rug (which yes, can be very glam) w some blues in it....just going off esmailis idea. And here are some other coffee tables and rugs that would totally work. Lastly, can you measure the heigh and width of your couch...will be necessary to determine coffee table height and width.
