Vietnam. but there's a lot of Vietnamese in Southern California too, and I believe the tropical fruit nursery I went to, the Vietnamese owner (a man) had a carambola bonsai on display next to the register in his personal collection (not marked for sale).

What's surprising for me is to see so many fruits......

A dwarfed tree actually encourages fruit production. The plant's energy doesn't have anywhere else to go, so it produces fruits.
