I do my windows inside and out at least once per month. How t water, ammonia, and white vinegar in equal parts, with a squeegee and microfiber cloths. Windows are invisible, and sills stay nice and clean with just a wipe.

I clean my windows with a scowl on my face and I mix a solution of 1 part white vinegar and 1 part hot water. I use a small squeegee and dry with a lint free cloth.

Outdoors nothing can beat a power washer...cleanest ever. Inside hot water with a drop of dawn, a little ammonia. Use a micro cloth and wring it very dry.

I live in a 1971 Florida bungalow with the original old sliding glass doors. I don't know if the salt air makes the job that much harder but I have tried so many methods and they all left the glass with a hazy film. But a friend introduced me to Norwex glass cleaning cloths and I am a convert! Expensive but worth every penny!

A pail of warm water, a few drops of dish detergent (I prefer Dawn), a soft white cloth for cleaning with the solution and a squeegee (and dry white cloth for wiping the squeegee between swipes) for drying the window. Works every time for me.

I use an amazing product called Hertel. It is biodegradable and can be used on anything, windows, mirrors, cars and leaves behind nothing but a shine. It is concentrated and comes in an 800 ml bottle and costs $3.99 at Home Hardware. Mix it up in a bucket take an old washcloth and literally wash your window dry with an old towel and you are done. I highly recommend this product.

I take a bucket of warm water and a capful of Woolite and use a sheepskin-type brush to clean the outside of the windows and then rinse. Wa-La! Sparkling clean! The Woolite makes the water run off beautifully and streak free. For indoors I use Sprayway glass cleaner and paper towel.

I spray the insides and my children clean them. Then I spray the outsides and I clean that. Next day I touch up streaks.

Pledge Multi-Surface spray. I am serious. I have tried almost all the suggestions listed but nothing works as well as this.

Invisible Glass. (Like Windex) Used to only find it in the car section at WalMart, but our local store now keeps it with the cleaning products. I use it with microfiber cloths. No streaks whatsoever. :)

Lots of great recommendations. However, is anyone concerned about voiding the warranty on their windows by using products (even vinegar) on it. We recently replaced a couple of windows (and more to go) with better quality double-pane Low E-glass and are about to spend thousands of dollars on a new front door with double-pane windows also. Fine print said anything but water on the glass will void the warranty (which was 20 years on this particular door). Yikes! Also, do you have to worry about scratching the finish on Low E with the Norwex cloths?

I use windex with vinegar!

Just remodeled our master bath. Shower has a 1/2 inch glass surround that is huge. Glass installer suggested "RainEx" prior to first use. The water just runs right off!

Soap and water with a bit of vinegar thrown in. Squeegee it, and the glass sparkles!

I just mention to my husband that the windows need cleaning. He uses a few drops of a concentrated liquid glass cleaner, a splash of kerosine, a window mop, and a squeegee. The screens are hosed down and left to dry in the sun. He vacuums the tracks with a shop vac. I do all the mirrors and glass in the house with Sprayway or Pledge all-purpose cleaner and a microfiber cloth. Windows are cleaned once a month in warmer weather. He also washes, polishes and waxes my car regularly, and he cooks! He enjoys these jobs. That's why I married him.

Professionals once a year in fall do windows inside, outside and clean screens. I noticed they used Palmolive dish soap this year. During spring and summer I occasionally clean windows I can reach with a traditional window cleaner...I can't type the name because it's hard to own up to using this non-environmentally sound product. No window washing in winter here....too cold.

I have always used windex, with paper towels. Scrubbing in a circular motion tends to leave them streak free!

add 1-2 tablespoons rubbing alcohol to any dish soap and water combination. always use a squeegee to wipe off water. There will be no streaks

Ultimate cloth Bad Boys. Only need water, no wiping dry, streak free. Also use them on mirrors, glass tables, computer/phone screens, eye glasses. I found them at a home show many, many years ago. Didn't believe they worked until I tried them at the home show (not the one the demonstrator was using). Made in Canada, order online. Would never use anything else.

You might not believe it but the best way to get a good finish on your windows- both inside and out- is to dry them with newspaper. Try it and see!

Read over 50 comments and went with the Dawn plan. Wow!! 2 drops of blue Dawn in warm water "slopped on the windows" as one commenter advised. Squeege and wipe as needed with microfiber rag that has never been in the dryer. Windows have never looked better, even in direct sunlight.

In a spray bottle with 2 cups water, ½ cup white vinegar, and ½ cup rubbing alcohol. I use a micro fiber cloth too. They come out great.

I just ask my husband to clean the windows. That's the easiest way, and they lgreat. He uses a very soft professional bristle brush and a few drops of the dish soap and water, then the squidgy and newspaper; they really sparkle. It works well and it doesn't take very long. The house is over 4000 sq. ft. with lots of windows, but he has it down to a science. It looks pretty easy and fast; we've been married almost 50 yrs. and he hasn't complained yet.

First I only use spray on window cleaner. Not the pump kind. I wash the inside at a side to side, the outside up and down. I do this twice on each side. I hate streaks. this works for me.

In my shower I use RainX, works great and lasts a long time. Outside windows I use a few drops of Dawn dish soap and hot water to wash, rise with the hose and then followed by a spray of vinegar and water, a squeegee and they are done! Inside, vinegar and water, wipe with a clean cloth and dry with old linen shirts or towels. If I find old linen table cloths at the Goodwill or Resale shop I snag them up just for window drying - STREAK free! Never wash them in the sunlight.

I haven't seen anyone mention coffee filters. I use the large coffee filters instead of newspaper. Works great!

Hawkeye- I use Rain-x (for cars) after cleaning shower. I also rinse & squeegee after showering.

IMHO coffee filters would probably work better now since newspaper print is soy and comes off very easily.

on my weather side windows I spray with a cheap oven cleaner first it cleans off all the filmy weather crap and then I use Windex and paper towels. Works great and my 100 year old windows really sparkle. This also works on any glass especially greasy kitchen glass decanturs and windows. let me add I am very anal about my windows.

First I wash with warm soapy water, rinse, dry and then apply kerosene with a rag and polish with newspaper. Not only will they be spotless but they seem to stay that way longer and won't fog up inside or out! This is an OLD method that my great granny's housekeeper used to employ and it really works, especially on mirrors in steamy bathrooms. I also spot clean with alcohol and rags - makes the glass sparkle.

I use "Spiff Cloth". It's a reusable cloth that cleans windows and MUCH more. No more lint, no more streaks, no more chemicals! My windows, mirrors, appliances, devices (and more) are spotless with just this cloth and water. Find it online.

Glass Plus and paper towels
