It's amazing how much we have in common with with the members at the Cactus Forums everyone...I have been there for years and when I see an article that might help you all, I like to share...

Take a good look at it and see if there is something you can take away from it..Enjoy!

Hey Mike great to see you))!

I can't blame people being wrapped up and stressing out about the mixes they use..Until I found out how to create porous mixes, not """""fancier"""" mixes, with the components needed to address rot issues for ALL my plants, I was the same too..

In fact, I had no idea that I could use other mixes other than the crappy bagged ones I buy at the local stores that kill my trees every year..Mike, you know It's great to be well informed and to understand what kind of ingredients can be used to further encourage the development of good healthy roots for our trees...You of all people should understand since to me it's just as important as understanding how electricity works to it's full potential without causing fires, death or other damage..

Components being 'bark' and 'perlite' in which you use, and I have to say that the fact that you understand how they work and that they do work is a great find for you. I say that all this talk about using porous mixes has had an affect on your growing needs which is why your trees look so wonderful!

What kind of 'bark fines' do you use and what kind of 'perlite'?

This would help many that can't see to find or use the other ingredients they are wondering about..It seems you have a very simple mix working for you in your area, in a much better place than mine...Nice and warm Oklahoma? I hope you keep the warm weather around much longer than I..

You know the more informed people are, the better off they are, and why you implied it's not on my thread, I don't get it..I expected more of you. There are many things to consider when growing plants, and soil mix being of top concern..Then sun, the length and amount of warm days which you have on your side and so on...

Would you go back to using plain ole miracle grow, or the miracle grow 'soil' straight from the bag spoken of for your trees?

Growing these trees is a HUGE investment for many and it's natural to loose sleep over them wondering if you are doing the right thing. Once you understand how or what mixes works best for your trees, then one can relax.....When one can grow their trees as '''beautiful''' as yours, then they can sit back and be concerned about other things and then enjoy the fruitage of their labor)))

Mike I'm really sorry I wasn't trying to upset you. My point was and it was early when I was trying to make this point was that we shouldn't be so stressed about it. Mine is a landscapers mix from Lowe's 60% and coarse perlite 40%.

no i wouldnt use straight miracle grow without adding perlite. I have never told anyone to do that. Infact just yesterday a good friend of mine in kansas was asking about a mix. I told him the same. I dont use the garden soil because it too expensive for me. I make my mix for so much cheaper.

Im not trying to be a jerk and I hope you dont think I was or am.

I'm also a member of a facebook citrus group, and the majority of questions/issues are directly related to improper/inappropriate choice of potting mix. There's just no way around it.

Mike, I am really not upset at all, not at you, one whom I've liked and known for years..I just didn't appreciate your approach or lack of ability to see what I was trying to do for others......

Besides I expected a nice hello and how are you rather than a turd on my head since I am always asking about you. It's been a while since I have heard from you which explains the nice hello and smiles from me.....)

    No harm done
