I think you are in the right track. Here is the Before and After of a home from Fixer Upper. You need to lose those arches. Painting the brick would be a unifying concept.

I think the quoins are a traditional look, so it would be difficult to make the home modern. But it could use some updating...garage doors and driveway, windows and maybe some trim around them. Then some great landscaping would really help.

The Fixer Upper house has quoins also, but when you paint them and the brick all one color the building takes on a fresh classic appearance. Modern might not be the right description.

That house will never be modern , a new front door , no shutters some nice landscaping and if you must paint just the quoins to match the brick. I would not paint this brick can you remove the dividers in the windows if so get rid of them if you want a more modern feel . Paint the garage doors the same as the color you choose for the quoins some brighter colored chair upholstery and some large planters by the steps with seasonal plantings

I love all the input! I think when I say modern I am implying a more clean updated look. The same house mentioned before on fixer-upper was actually my inspiration for the beginning of this project! I hate the quoins on the corners of the house so anything to blend them in is optimal. I love my front door! I love Joanna Gaines style, it has inspired a lot of the inside of my house. So do I paint the house? There's a few painted houses in the neighborhood but not many. Will it make it stand out? I've included a picture of another inspiration. Could I pull that same look off with my house?

You have a nice home... the thing that bothers me is the low roof pitch and the hip roof on the garage.... I would get new custom garage doors, and I would move the solar panels to the back of the house... they look bad.

Your garage is currently the most noticeable aspect of your façade. Different garage door color or different doors that blend more with the brick and stucco would make them less obvious. Painting the quoins would be far less work and upkeep than painting the brick. Three colors applied to match and blend with the brick would be pretty easy and well worth the effort if you don't want to see them. Large potted plants around your chairs out front would soften the look of that concrete and blend well for a more landscaped look. If ;you don't use those chairs I would get rid of them and build a planter box with something to take the hard edge off the base of the house. Divided lights are not modern and neither are shutters but can both be a nice and softening effect.

Well your design instincts are well developed, so have at it.

Replace your garage doors with something in keeping with the look of your house as it is now. If you try to make it something it isn't, it will always look "off".

I believe this facing is simply applied to an existing door.

I never thought about changing the garage doors, it could make a big difference. I know I need to keep the existing style in check but I just hate it, I want to tweak it

I have to ask, do you every use those chairs in the front? If not, consider adding some modern tall planters to help "tweak your facade". Try large ones in a group of 3 to add softness.

I we do use the chairs, I've got little ones that ride bikes and I sit and watch everyday. I need to fancy that spot up a bit with search options. Any ideas?

I have a very similar looking home, so I wondered what you decided upon.

We took a break from the remodel and decided to put an addition on the back of the house. Now we are almost done and need to make some decisions about exterior. I just can’t visualize the house all white with out the quoins. I really hate them. Here are some updated pictures. The stucco is almost all off and siding completed. The plan is to paint all white. But would some stone in the front look better? Basically I need to visually see it, I don’t know how to do that. This is what the new addition looks like. During construction, clothes dryer went out in the middle, and after. We are no strangers to crazy!

What did you decide? I am looking for quoin updating options too!!
