I am on a tight budget (stereotypically young and broke, living abroad). I bought an ikea sofa a while back and it's way too squishy and hurts my back. I live in Japan, so have used a lot of floor seating, and I really like it. It encourages me sit up straight, and my back doesn't hurt. Because of this, I'm thinking of switching to mostly all floor seating in the living room of my next apartment (plus some normal armchairs for a reading nook). However, this apartment will be in the USA.

So my questions are a)Do you use mostly floor seating and like it? and b) Does it get awkward or embarrassing when people visit who are not used to floor seating? We don't entertain very often, but I want guests to feel comfortable and not think I'm weird. ;-) Should I save up to get a nice firm sofa?
