You can reduce echos by adding soft furnishings, drapes, wall hangings, paintings, books, rugs, decorative pillows - anything that breaks up the hard surfaces (metal, wood, glass) will help absorb sound. I have a relative whose house was like being caught inside a tin can - put oriental rugs on this floors, and hung two on the walls, added plenty of artwork and a few cushions, and it made a world of difference.
