if cutting main stem dies, it's toast, right?

As usual... it is all my fault!

I got impatient with my Grand Duke of Tuscany cuttings, put them out on the hot balcony for a day, in indirect light I thought, and did not pay enough attention.

One of the cuttings got fried up top. The top two leaves went black.

There were two lower green leaves, so I put it back inside, but those turned black too.

I assumed it was a goner, but when I took it out of the perlite ... there was a root, about almost a centimeter long.

I've been throwing it a bit of water here and there... but, if the main stem is dead, it can't grow a new one, can it?
