Can you mix dark and light trims in a home? Any rules to follow?

Yes you can. The break point should be logical like at a doorway or some clearly defined architectural feature that separates spaces.

Thank you I will look for some pictures. Considering dark molding around my front door which is just a solid white door. Hope to replace it someday with a wooden door with glass panels.

I would of course try to match that color with another feature in the room to help tie it in.

Good idea. I will keep that in mind. I'm thinking I will go dark at front door and then add dark elements in art or accessories. Would love to add to stairway which is next to entry on railing, but our stair has walls not spindles.

Sounds good, Phillis. It would just need to be an accessory or 2 to make it work. If you put too many pieces of the same color it'll draw too much attention to it.

Yes, if I add too much, front door won't stand out and look "special".
