Then what are they supposed to do with it once it's in a live trap? Relocating it is illegal. Snap traps are as humane a way to kill mice as we have.

Twice I tried to catch the mice and set them free at a local wild park. Once I didn't take him until a day or two later..and it was dead in the humane trap. I tried one more time..caught another at night..took it to the park after work the next day...and it was so close to being dead it just sort of wobbled away.

So it seem they go into some shock very quickly. You would never guess that mice would be that sensitive.

Most likely starvation and dehydration as mice need to consume 20% of their body weight in food and water every day.

Guess you didn't find EVERY opening. Your county vector control will send someone out to help. You are paying for this in your property taxes and they really can find even that tiny hole. Santa Clara County sent an inspector and he found some quarter sized holes where roof rats had entered. He gave us all the info and even some spring type rat traps and exactly what to do (like anchor the traps so they don't take off with them). Don't give up. They spread disease and are not cute.

It is illegal in CA to trap and relocate any wildlife. If trapped the animal must either be released on site or killed.
