We have 3 bathrooms, a powder room and a kitchen - the kitchen has natural cherry cabinets and Cambria Armitage countertops (dark), the powder room has a natural cherry cabinet and mirror and a quartzite countertop the same as the fireplace surround in the living room/great room. Walls are BM Cloud White. The master bath has walls in gray, with predominantly white quartz counter, ceramic (looks like stone) floor. Other two baths are a slightly different gray, with brown/white/gray/black counter in one, pedestal sink in the other, same granite used for shower & bath ledges for both, and the same floor tile (ceramic) in both. So there is something that ties them all together or to other aspects of the house, but they're not all the same. I think a common palette or theme or something that shows that you thought about things as a whole is nice, but as auntthelma says, it's really up to you and how you want YOUR house to look.

Different countertops work great for different things. Sometimes our clients want to splurge on high quality countertops in the kitchen because there it is exposed to water, heat and sharp objects. While in the bathroom there isn't the same level of exposure.

Really does depend on you.

It seems to be more of a consensus that a house should be cohesive but not necessarily same colors and materials; usually the same color scheme is the best way to go.

However we do have clients that have decided to have a different theme for each bathroom.

Here's my take on this. Cohesiveness means same style- all modern, traditional, country, etc. It does not mean matching materials or even color schemes.

Interesting discussion. Thanks everyone. From a timeline/budget perspective I may get my kitchen remodeled in the next year. Bathrooms may come much later. So I was worried that if I don't do them all at the same time, I may not find the exact same materials/colors and hence they may all be a mishmash.
