I like the wood carvings, but I feel that a piece like that, and dark too, might squish and crowd such art as you have below / eye level.

When going upstairs do you crave something there?

How about not a circle or square object, but a family initial merely, something very light and neutral?

Or a word that you want there - in a foreign language even......

Sorry not sure i understood where you want to put it. Do you want to replace the gold circle painting above the hallway ? On the green wall? I like the carvings, they are beautiful but I agree with previous poster that the "dark" room needs gold more than dark wood. I actually find the current painting very nice.

If you want to replace by carvings I would do the second image you showed (light/gold)
