Something (architectural?) to define kitchen and dining

We have just started the process of building a new house. Living Room, Dining Room and Kitchen are all open with the living room in one leg of an "L" and the kitchen and dining room in another leg.

My issue is the kitchen/dining room. The space is very long and narrow, running 15 ft by 34 about half for the kitchen and half for the dining room. I would like to add something between the two rooms to define each space and break up that long narrow look. Right now I have a peninsula between the two, and that works but we don't really need that there. A kneewall won't work because of the basement door on the left (it got cut off - it's right across from the peninsula end.) So is it wierd to have a peninsula that really just there to break up the space? Or does someone have another suggestion?
