Hi, we are building a house and are concerned with how the front porch area is coming out. The builder said it was necessary to drop the garage to accommodate a flatter driveway for a future basketball hoop while still allowing windows for the basement. However there is a really large amount of concrete exposed. I also don't understand why they made an extra step on the porch itself instead of adjusting the height of the whole porch.

Is there any way to make this look less awkward and function better? We are concerned about safety as well.
