If it mats down, mix it with dry weeds with stiff stems, straw, or other fibrous materials.

There is a lot of information about the nutritional makeup of Duck Weed on the internet and I would suspect that the C:N ratio would be on the order of a lot of other seaweeds, 19:1, or about the same as grass clippings.

Duck Weed is about 98 percent water right out of the pond so something dry to soak up that moisture is needed.

No problem as far as dry browns are concerned - I've already have about 4 giant garbage bags filled with shredded sycamore leaves I've collected from a local park. Still waiting for maple leaves to fall 'cause I hear they are high in micronutrients. Just thought that the mats of duckweed in the pile might make turning difficult.

Think I might harvest some of the duckweed today and blend it with a concrete mixing blade (on electric drill) in a 5 gal bucket to see if that breaks it up a bit.

Just a little update on the duckweed........it's a lot tougher than it looks. My plan of breaking it up a bit with a concrete mixing blade was pretty much useless. Just got wrapped around the blade like a bunch of fine twine. The blades of the mixer would need to be sharp to cut the weed up. Back to drawing board!

I wouldn't worry to much about breaking it up. That stuff can tangle up boat motors.

at any rate on its own it decays rapidly. so just wait.

I think Glib has it right........I'll just try it as some of the greens in the hot bin and see what happens. I like to turn it over a few times so just hope it (duckweed) doesn't make it too stringy.
