Can you tell me what this is? And better yet how it is holding up?

I believe the counter top is Cambrian Black Satin granite. A torch is run over the surface in which certain minerals burn up, leaving a textured surface. often called "Flamed" or "Leather".

Actually, the perimeter counter tops are "Avallon" polished quartz by Pental Quartz. It's non-porous and very durable. My clients who have this in their kitchens are very happy with the ease of care and durability.
