I remembered there was there was another forum called Name That Plant. Someone there told me this is Obedient Plant. I've heard of it, but never seen it. I believe I've been told it is very invasive and to run like the wind from it. Anyone?

Just now, while searching for info on Obedient Plant, I see that Lisa was battling it years ago. Lisa, is the war still on? I haven't planted it in the ground yet, just stuck it in a pot that had some moist dirt until I could decide if I really wanted to keep it once I figured out what it was.

Physostegia, obedient plant. Said to be invasive, but it has all died out here and I miss it. It is a member of the mint family and I think it needed more water and sun than it had where I put it.

lol...when someone is willing to give you plants, you should quickly pull out your phone and do a google search :) lol. I still have a few of these, but I have so many thugs, they can't take over too much. They are blooming right now, so that is a positive, if you are needing nectar plants. You can pull them fairly easily too.

That's what has me worried. I already have so many thugs. But this is absolutely beautiful! I can't decide!!!!

How but growing it in a pot? I heard the same yhing, planted 3 places. Only 1 grew and weakly (again THIS are has little direct sun and not watered alot. I wintersowed some this year and plan to put it in a pot

It is a thug, and I don't grow it because of that. It also is misnamed. It should be called Disobedient plant since it doesn't stay where it is supposed to say. It certainly is beautiful though.

I have been growing those here in Virginia for the last 12 years. I ordered mine from a catalog. Yes they multiply by underground stolons and seeds. In the fall cut off the top portion containing the flower area and dry them for a week. The base of each flower will have one seed a little cup. But use caution, once they are dried that little cup has a very sharp edge. Wear leather gloves to grind them in your palm to expel the seeds. A better way is to put just a few stems into a tupperware bowl and seal the lid. Shake the bowl like a tambourine against your hip and the seeds will expel leaving the chaff behind. They are called obedient plant because you may bend the stem over at an angle and they will stay in that position. Here is a photo of mine taken just three days ago.
