I think a binding cut 2 1/4" (same as most of us cut for our quilts) will be fine.

I've always used 2.25" for binding on placemats and runners too.

Wow, most people use 2-1/4" for binding? I usually use 2", and for placemats and other small things I use 1-3/4".
