I feel like, with the exception of the throw pillows, all the color is on the floor, while the main colors higher up are black and white.

My first move would be to take down the tiny picture in the corner and replace it with the larger earthtone woman I see leaning on the floor to the right of your shelving unit. Hang her around same height, so that she extends down (and maybe behind corner of TV). That will bring some of your color up into the room and help balance the shelves a bit.

Second, I want a longer rectangular coffee table, preferably wood, rather than the small round black/glass one. Maybe the round one could go between the couch and the first chair, and you could add a reading lamp there (preferably with a little texture or color interest to it).

Beyond that, hard to judge the arrangement without any sense of what the rest of the room is like...

I really like the room and the pieces you have but it looks like you just have too many small things. I think with some editing, the room will look really nice. So I think all you need is some simplifying and decluttering.

I like the idea suggested by acm of taking down the small picture and replacing it with the larger one you have leaning against the wall. Also take out the vase with the sticks standing next to the TV.

Take the decorations off the top of the shelf - I think it looks too crowded. Once you hang your large picture, move the TV and the shelving unit a bit to the right and spread them out a bit.

And I would suggest trying to switch your chairs: the blue chair by the window and the two wicker chairs with the small table where the blue chair is currently. As it is, the corner next to the TV looks too crowded. Instead of the plant next to the sofa, why don't you try a floor lamp or a small side table with lamp on it. And try a navy blue throw on the sofa instead of white.

Oh, and take down whatever it is hanging on the wall next to the window.

I like your style - can you post some more pics so we can see beyond the white couch (taken form corner near TV and from a few different angles)?

Basically I like your room, a colored throw would be more balanced, take down the small thing on the wall and let your curtain hang straight for more volume.

I love your rug and think wood coffee table would be nice, but something not too big, maybe even two small tables. I think thing just need a little moving around and maybe a couple new things. The TV needs to be on something larger or something that ties in better with the taller stand next to it...just want to see a few more pics before I make recommendations.

this is sort of what I mean - the TV and stand needs to be more in proportion to the stand next to it. Can the two chairs be moved over so that one chair is out of the corner? and then the TV stand can be larger?

I would pull the sofa back about a foot, then shift the small chair at the left, the little table and the chair in the corner to the left of where they are now as much as possible (so that there is no chair in the corner). Shift the etagere to the left, nearer the window but not in the corner exactly. (Line its left edge up with the 'window' edge of the sofa.) Then put the TV to the right of the etagere, perhaps on top of your glass top coffee table, so that it is swiveled toward the couch. Hang the large picture in the wall space above. So now you don't have a coffee table. So, who needs it? Get a white or accent color poof. Arrange and choose the decor on the etagere more for color and shape than anything. If you crave a coffee table, use the TV stand as a bench type coffee table.

Please show us more of your space. I think we are not understanding your dilemma. Now, we have almost bought you everything new and moved your furniture, when maybe all you need is to hang that picture on the wall.

Basically it is a square room 4 x 4,5 meters. It is too wide to put the sofa against the wall and the tv on the opposite wall. So I let the sofa float..

Then there is a radiator in the corner behind the sofa. Don't know what to do about it. I put a small glass desk now.

I am really open to buying new furnitures by the way!

I think some pillows more along this idea for the chairs in front of the window and if the couch can be moved back a little and the chairs moved over so that one is out of the corner.

a coffee table in wood (not sure of size and current one doesn't look terrible or anything!)

I like your style a lot and I see what you mean, there is just something that is off. I would do 3 easy things. First: add a throw in the middle of the white couch. Love a white couch, but I would add a blanket on the middle pillow to break the white and connect it to the colors of the room. In your case I would go with a dark blue shibori throw. I would def get rid of black coffee table and put a rectangular solid wood one with still a black frame if you want to keep your black shelves, something like pic attached for ex. I would change the pillows on the chair for printed ones. And finally I would put a slightly larger art piece or add to the one that is ther

Where you have the small piece of artwork hanging- consider replacing with a large round mirror. Could be a starburst or simple frame. Mirrors really lift a room- they reflect light and brighten. Also a fur, cozy, grayish throw for the sofa. Soft textures will help too :)

Nice pieces and I'm sure there is a way to display your things that is more serene and balanced. I wish I had a spot for those wicker chairs in my house, love them.

I'd bring the low cubes to the other side of the room and place the TV on it near one end. Then try the tall shelving in the corner behind the sofa with the desk next to it. as those pieces seem similar, dark skinny frames and very airy. No idea how to fit the dark cabinet in, perhaps it can go in the dining room corner if you pull the table and chairs out a bit?? Perhaps painting it a fun color would help it fit in? Perhaps it could go into another room? Or maybe it is just fine and it's the photo that's throwing me off!

Take down all your decorative items and artwork. Decide which pieces are meaningful, those will go back up. Decide where they need to be and pick out pieces to make nice arrangements and vignettes. Think about that for a bit then put it up when you know it's right. Don't try to fit it all in, likely there will be some decorative items that just plain don't go with anything else. I like the idea of picture ledges so you can rearrange things as you please without having to balance, level or put more holes in the walls. If the TV works on the cube shelving then a long ledge above TV and one part way between cubes and upper ledge might be a spot to consider displaying some of your smaller pieces.

I suggest buying a roll of tape to lay out picture arrangements and possible picture ledge on walls and live with the tape for a few days before reinstalling your artwork. I used to cut out paper panels to tape to the walls and make up arrangements on the floor before getting out hammer and nails.

I kind of only skimmed the comments, but is there any reason the TV and shelving unit can't be switched? You need to rehang most of your art. A lot of it is too high, or too alone, or just needs to be better arranged.

If you get the arrangement right, I think this room will rock.

You have too much stuff that isn't properly arranged. The tv console needs to be larger. Move the shelf and center the tv. It doesn't need to be in the corner.

You have no warm tones in your furniture. Especially the tables, shelves, etc. you could use a nice medium tone wood console for tv

TV is usually the focal point in a room without a FP or a view. I don't see a FP and the view looks to be another apartment building, so getting the TV in the right place is prime. If you can afford to move the connections that's always a good investment. I would want the TV on the long white cubby cabinet. It could be centered or further toward the rad end of it. Next, I'd center a much larger area rug with the window and move the sofa in front of the window so guests would have their backs to the neighbors across the way. The new rug should slip comfortably under the front 1/3 of the sofa and extend past the ends enough to give a well grounded, not skimpy, look. Try your current rug under the dining table if it is wide enough so the chairs can be pulled out and sat in without falling off the rug. It shouldn't run into the baseboards or any furniture on the walls. If it is too small to work there, consider moving the etagere to the dining area and closing the table or turning it and adjusting its location in that space. Then place the blue chair in the current TV/etagere area. Take the two matching chairs opposite the window, and since they are leggy and see-through, place them completely on the rug. As you see, we are talking about a much larger rug for this space. What is the black cabinet left of the white cubby cabinet? Can it go to another room? It draws the eye to the big black corner. Last, rehang your art. It is much too high and some of it is too small to hang alone. If you move the etagere into the dining area you'll have a lot of wall to cover. Maybe the grouping and items on the cubby cabinet can combine with your other smaller pieces to form a nice grouping where the etagere is now.

I think your shelves may be overpowering the room. I tried moving them, but that didn't look good. You might try restyling them; everything on them has virtually the same mass, so try exchanging some pots for framed photos or more books. That was too much for me, so I just removed them and added another big plant.

Can you turn the tall bookcase on it's side? It seems to be very tall and your sofa looks lower than many from the photo.

I wonder what it would look like if the white shelves behind the couch and the tall one were switched? and the other dark one in the corner moved right and TV moved to on top of the white one...or the tall one moved over right to be sort of in between living and dining area and then something more substantial for TV?

Here are my thoughts:
All of your furniture is on legs. Added to that, your wall bookcase is spindly. I would invest in a tall, solid looking, " bookcase"
That will house the TV. It will lessen the clutter.
Also I think the picture on the wall is too small and hung too high.

My ideas:

Sofa on right wall with menagerie of smaller and medium art on that wall.

Your carpet and coffee table (new wood rectangular would be better, or large oval).

Two chairs flanking sofa sharing coffee table. No end tables.

Big art of woman left of window. Standing lamp there at far left corner, maybe keep desk there, maybe move it to dining wall far right of entrance.

Black bench under window.

T.V. left wall with one of the white bookcases as a media table.

Black glass shelf to dining wall.

Other White bookcase vertical to right of window. A large plant there in that far right corner.

Any art (I like all of your art) left over put on left wall of entrance, now the t.v. wall, to right of t.v. If you have room, put a lamp left of t.v. on the white bookshelf that is on floor horizontally (as you have it). If you have no electrical outlet on that left wall invest in getting one.

(You don't need new curtains or carpet. They can work. Just need new coffee table and to move things about. Maybe a throw as suggested and standing lamp, another lamp, and some elbow grease).

just an update on what I did after all your very helpful comment. I must say I am pretty happy with the results. It just feels much better!

What I changed:

-Moved the shelving a bit away from the tv at transition between dining and seating area. Placed a large plant next to it.

-Moved the tall painting higher to have more colour higher up.

-Hung a large mirror left of the tv.

-I am still planning to buy a new cofee table and a couple of lamps.

Also I think a rug under the table could be nice.

It's coming along! Would you consider moving the large painting over the the left of the tv? The space above the tv could be filled with a grouping of 3-5 smaller pieces or the mirror turned horizontally.

The large bookcase with the large painting together is just a bit heavy.

That looks better, but I'd move things around more. Cm you put the tv on top of the white bookcase closer to the window? Then turn the sofa and chairs to face to white bookcase (keeping the sofa floated as you have it now). Then center the black bookcase behind the sofa. It seems that when you enter the room now, you're walking into the side of a sofa. I think this would feel more open.
