Probably some kind of Iris Family garden plant. I would look for something nearby with sword shaped leaves and the same seeds.

We tore up a lawn and put in plants and ground cover and it started growing immediately. It wasn't there before hand so that's why it is a little confusing.

tmj1824 - we need to know where these are growing geographically. They could be irises, they could be palms, or possible something else altogether. But if you live in Alaska we can eliminate the palms....

A closer view of the leaves and seeds would also be useful. Are the leaves sharply pleated?

I am in San Jose, CA. A little south of San Francisco. I will have to go back out to the jobsite as the ones in the picture have shriveled up.

Mmm - I'm no palm expert but that looks like a potential parent of those babies to me. The only palm seedlings I've ever seen in real life are the dates which sprout from pits in my compost heap sometimes.
