Draw out the space on 1'x1' graph paper. Hangers need 2' depth or width, folded clothes 1'height&width. Puzzle a little with all the things you want to go in there. Add a few inches depth for the sliding doors to roll freely.

Rinqreation has a really good point. A simple drawing with dimensions would help here. Is it the entire room or just that space on the far wall? Solutions depends on actual space and measurements.

I meant a drawing for the width and height for personal use. But indeed, for other Houzzers it's nice to know the layout/floorplan too. And yes, I can imagine a good sized storage there with sliding doors, and just assumed that was what a1161085 wants, not an entire walk-in.

Above all, will it take a hanger width? If not, there are some IKEA cupboards which allow you to hang your clothes on rails with the hanger facing you (rather than sideways)

When you are considering sliding doors, byparting barn doors look and work great for this type of application. Having the doors roll outside like byparting hardware does rather than inside the closet will give you more space. See: http://rusticahardware.com/bypass-barn-door-hardware-system/

The inner depth is actually 2 ft and outer depth another 2 ft so I'm thinking 2 ft for storage, 2ft for standing and can do something on the 2 sides also, like shelving? The space is actually from the door frame inwards, therefore basically I can only have one step in with the sliding door open. I quite like rustica hardware's sliding door idea as I really like its mechanism but there's no supplier carrying this in Msia atm. I'm currently thinking 4 panel sliding door opening from the 2 center panel and 2 fixed ones on the sides? Or is there a better idea on doors? Thanks for the great ideas :)

I had sliding doors on a closet and they drove me nuts because you couldn't open the whole thing if you wanted to. If there is room for sliding barn doors, go for it. Do it where you can pull them all the way back from the closet if possible. Otherwise, I'd say bifold even though they don't look as nice. Sliders have the potential to drive you nuts.

Yes elandry, I absolutely agree with you on the doors. I just hope that the sliding barn doors don't look too heavy in my room.

You can keep them as light and simple as you want. Have you thought about placing storage units transversal to the back wall of your closet? What is the width of the room and of the niche?

My closet is about the same size. 5 ft by 3 just enough room to step in, not walk in. Used a ready made closet system. Made a bypass barn sliding door from supplies at farm supply store, shutters were from old plantation home.

Thinking outside the box is one of my specialities too ;) Haha!
