Not sure about your question but I think the only things salvageable are maybe the drapes if you hem them and separate the panels. Then just new furniture and light fixture with coordinating paint and art.

Is that revere pewter throughout the rest of the house? I would paint, switch out the drapes, new light fixture, new art, new furniture. Do you have anything that has inspired you for the space (fabric, art, light fixture)? It could give us a start for suggesting other elements.

Sorry, I accidentally posted before I finished writing my post. So, i cannot get rid of my furniture or drapes. What color can I Paint the room and what Color fabric can I put on chairs? I'm even willing to paint the furniture if I need to...

Hmmm. Probably not going to look modern with this furniture. Is it possible to thin out the drapes? The fabric suggestion is from tonicliving.ca and the color is Benjamin Moore Amherst Gray. What color are the chairs? They look like a green grey.

The furniture is more yellow-ish with dark brown--antique looking. I wish I could get rid of it all, but it is truly not an option.

My suggestions: buy a new chandelier...something glitzy but modern; reupholster your chairs,maybe in a black or black and white stripe. The drapes are lovely but dated, would you consider shortening them and hang as panels on the sides of the windows. If not, viva la difference.....

You can certainly make the room look less traditional by painting or retaining the furniture a brown of your table by the windows. I'd recycle the curtains by using it on the chairs. Consider padding and covering the chair backs to make them less frilly. If you paint the lattice part of your pedestal a black, so it resembles metal, keeping the rest of the wood dark, it might help update it a bit. Definitely reduce the amount of curtains. They look like silk, so I'd have them re-done and hung in the corners between your windows. Can you change the chandelier and picture?

I'm not sure that this dining room needs to look modern to match the rest of the house. You could change a couple of thing such as the chandelier and your art to give it a more eclectic look. This room seems to be separate so I would have no problem with it being a bit more glamorous! Remove the table scarf and flowers and add something a bit more modern and streamlined to the table. I have added a Miro' print to your room. It is " modern" but classic at the same time and have added a heavy gold frame. New fixtures as well.

Those drapes appear to be nicely made custom. I would not get rid of them. Raise the rod and have them hemmed. If necessary, remove a width from the panels and let them hang straight (unless you close them for privacy). Acrylic rods with endcaps would look sleek and modern. Replace the light fixture and recover your chair seats. I'd go with something a little lighter on the paint color also.
