I have a blank slate (how fun!) but am trying to figure out a few things hopefully you guys could help with. Furniture we have are two light brown couches, black metal/glass top coffee table (thinking of constructing a wood top for a rustic look), and grey/blue and off white accent arm chair. TV was going to be mounted on the left side wall and was thinking of framing it with two tall bookcases and a short rectangle cabinet for under the TV.

I need help deciding on a couple things:

1- should I get a rug to connect the pieces in this room? Thinking a 6x9 if I can find one I can afford. Suggestions on color? Also not sure about rugs on carpet?

2- would painting that far wall help tie things together more? If so, what color? I was thinking of creating a white or grey wash wood panel for above the fireplace and placing a fun gold sunburst mirror.

Overall I would like to create a warm, contemporary but rustic look. Thanks for your suggestions!
