White or white-washed wood (or wood look tile) is still "hot" in Europe right now. That means that it will continue to heat up in N. America. N. America tends to be 2-3 years behind Europe.

Gray STOPPED being hot a few years ago...now it is white or very pale flooring that is hot in Europe. The "white" trend started 3-4 years ago in Europe. That means N. America will CONTINUE to see "white" (or white wash) floors as HOT for the next 3-5 years....possibly longer.

Certain areas of N. America are trendier than others. The "coats" are much trendier (NY, LA, etc) than middle America. Florida can be VERY trendy - in some areas - or it can be much more relaxed with decor (depends on the demographics and price range of the property as well).

Your area will dictate whether or not "white" is too trendy. Considering that Europe continues to show white/pale/bleached wood looking products for the 4th year in a row, I would say N. America has another 3-4 years of this trend in our future.

If you "think about it", this will be OK for 10 years. And here's why:

It will be HOT/trendy for 3-5 years. Once that time is over (and plenty of people updated their floors to pale/white wood-look tiles), it will be considered a "contemporary" floor for another 5-7 years. That takes you to "10 years from now".

Once you get PAST the hot trend/contemporary look, it will slowly feel dated. At 15 years of age, it will have "dated" itself to "Totally looks like 2016!" Which, if you remember what raineycarole states: "Everyhing will be dated".

Which is why you want to pick the floor you love and enjoy it for as long as you can stand it. By the time you "wake up and smell the coffee" it will be 10-15 years down the road...and you are welcome to update once again. Which is a standard design time frame for refreshing interiors.

In Europe, the "refreshing" happens every 7 years.

i think if you choose what looks right with the setting, the trend matters less. driftwood doesnt go out of style at the beach, nor does anyone say the ocean's color is so last year.

a trend is making an inland house look beachy. making a beach house look beachy is only right.

Those floors look amazing. I live in Florida and I can tell you the beach look is never going out of style especially near the coast.
