Germinating/planting seeds

I'm gonna have some lemon seeds from my Meyer lemon tree soon and I'm wandering how to plant the seeds. Do I have to germinate the at all? And if so how? I'm a newbie at planting trees by seed; it's my first time. What should I plant the seeds in? How much should I water the seeds/seedlings?

thanks. Any info will be appreciated about growing trees from seed.

I have germinated seeds by putting them in a few layers of damp paper towels and placed them in a warm location until they put out a root. I then carefully put them in MG/perlite. I have also put them directly into MG/perlite about 1/2 inch deep. Both methods. work well. The advantage of the former method is that it allows you to identify viable seeds. Provide good air circulation to prevent fungal growth which could kill the seedlings. Water in the morning and provide direct sun so that they can dry quickly - again to prevent fungal growth.

I think Vladimir has had success with MG soil - potting soil I think, but then whey they have 8 leaves or so, he moves them to a 50/50 perlite soil mix. I germinated mine in peat moss and all but one sprouted. However, they developed lots of mold and today I moved them to the perlite soil mix above because I was afraid they would rot. They seem ok now. Mine were tiny when I moved them (I posted pics in a thread today).

Thanks. I planted my lemon tree in MG soil and perlite, I wasn't sure if it was different for seedlings.

Well, I will not keep my seedlings in that mix. I have all my trees in the 5-1-1....a few in gritty, but I prefer 5-1-1. When they have a more established root system, I'll move them to 5-1-1. Good luck!

How much sun should I provide them? I could probably have them get up to seven hours or eight a day if needed.
