Kitchen Backsplash/Beadboard combo help

we have an old victorian and we're redoing the kitchen. (the fridge was in an island/peninsula). I'm moving the fridge against the wall and getting a new counter but I am trying to figure out what to do with the backsplash. It was previously about 8 inch high granite that met the counter and was glued over the old vintage beadboard. We'd like to keep the beadboard (I aint painting it white with the rest of the world) but can't figure out what to do with the backsplash.

If I went with granite backsplash again, it would stop at the fridge (the fridge ends right about where that brass outlet is at) but you'd be able to see the beadboard with all the glue on it behind the fridge beyond where the backsplash stops. Or I can run granite past the counter along the back of the fridge but that'd look off because the counter stopped.

Is there something else I can or should slap over that glue. Tin tiles? wood work? a carpenter is making a custom corner cabinet and island so he can probably do wood work but I just cant for the life of me figure out what would look decent. maybe just run the granite backsplash to the fridge and paint the beadboard behind the fridge.

Too bad the beadboard is probably ruined. At very least it would be a mess and time consuming to try to refinish it. It's a shame but it would be less hassle to replace it. Go solid beadboard from counter up. I don't see any reason to put a granite or tile backsplash over the beadboard.

Your kitchen would look crisp and fresh with white beadboard instead of the darker wood.

The other option is to just replace the beadboard entirely with tile.

the dark beadboard is all over the kitchen, even floor to ceiling around a built in 120 year old built in pantry. Like to keep it instead of replacing everything.

I love old homes we restored a 1890s Victorian a few years ago, but I would take that breadboard down and replace with a nice tile in keeping with the home. You have granite so not all is as it was. This will allow the rest of the bead board to stay and be a beautiful focal point and provide you a beautiful stove area.

I should add we had this same bead board in out entrance way with the aged patina it is lovely.

Hi, I think if you added granite again or tile over the glued parts including behind the fridge but then added a narrow shelf between backsplash and beadboard in the in the open area only. This would help the transition between backsplash that's behind fridge and what's not, especially if you added a corbels beside fridge. Something like shelf in the photo below, just closer to counter.

If the corner was removed I still got this middle section with spice rack. Maybe just put up granite backsplash with a little shelf.

Marble was frequently used in victorian kitchens. You might want to look at some "marble look" quartz - ones that run more to the "warm" side. Combined with cream subway tile - especially if you can afford the crackle cream subway tile would be in keeping with the Victorian look. I do not have a true "marble look" quartz - though my friends have asked if it is marble - and I combined it with ordinary cream "alabaster" subway tile for my backsplash. I do not have a victorian kitchen, but it is vintage in style with wood cabinets.

If you do not have a period sink, or want an up dated look - more user friendly sink, The Kohler Whitehaven "short apron" style cast iron sink is somewhat reminiscent of a victorian sink because of its shorter apron style, especially if the sink has a curtain front. It also can be installed on a standard sink base. My base is not curtained because I don't have many lower cabinets and that is where I keep the trash. A curtain would not stop the dogs, though I do have a curtained sink in my kitchenette - also in my idea book.
