Oh wow, I've never even heard of these. Predator nematodes? How interesting... thank you so much for the tip, I definitely have some reading to do. :-)

The lack of organic material in our sandy soil keeps their numbers down here. I've also never had to resort to control measures at any previous residence. Wonder what cause your sudden population explosion. Have you been using chemical controls for other types of pests or diseases in your garden that may have thrown things out of balance?

ETA: We still are in a drought here. If you are in an area that got significantly more rain this past winter, do you think that could have something to do with it?

Woodlice eat dead plant material right? Not live... I think... so they shouldn't hurt anything... maybe they're something else if they're eating your bulbs? Are you sure they're the ones eating your bulbs... or they just eating the dead part that's left?

It makes sense that they would be flourishing in this drought. Lots of dead plant material for them to eat all around.

Something else is damaging your bulbs. The "wood lice" are cleaning up the dead tissues. If the soil is too wet, the bulbs may be rotting rather than eaten by critters.

They are fine. I sort of wish I had more. I miss them and the kind that can roll up.

DO not kill them! Kill Gophers instead!

Thanks everyone. Apparently some types of woodlice only eat dead plant material, but others will eat living plant material too. I definitely have that kind... and it looks like it's not just me, as I was talking to several of my neighbors and they've all noticed a significant uptick too. I've been putting out hollowed orange halves, just the peel, and then physically removing the mounds of pure woodlice that go to sleep underneath them. It's a drop in an ocean, but it's something... I wish I could say that we've had wet weather, but no such luck!
