Your sofa looks too large for the space. Are you able to use the sliders? I would rather see a patterned or brighter chair instead of more brown.

The most important thing is the need for lamps! That overhead light will prevent your room from looking nice.....very harsh glare from it.

Yes, curtains should be used on the sliders. Is there another way to orient the sofa?

Thanks for the feedback. A friend of mine advised me to go with the couch, so there is no turning back there or any other way to configure. Here's another pic of the other side of the room to give you a better idea. Not sure if I could utilize a lamp somewhere in the space or not. I like the idea of going with a brighter chair now that I think about it

What is on the fourth wall, directly across from your big sliders?

The couch will look more in scale when you have something on the windows behind it.

I love the green wall color and your dog! I think a larger horizontal painting would be beautiful over your couch. I agree with the lighting, but there isn't room with the doors close toy your couch. Maybe on the other side of the room?

How about a painting behind the couch with two sconces one on each side?

I think the couch is too big, but maybe we can mask it a little bit. If you do curtains....you may have to push your couch over some. Do you have room to do that without it blocking the door? Better yet, can the couch come off the wall a few inches and still not be crammed in front of the TV? I also believe your rug is too small.

I know you just purchased the coffee table......I was thinking a smaller round as well. :-(

My friend has that exact same chair...it is pretty deep. The room would need something much sleeker and smaller scale.

If you have room to pull the couch into the room about 12", you could put a console table behind it with some lamps. That would help with your lighting situation, since you don't really have space for end tables and lamps. A lighter colored throw on the end of the couch would help lighten things and give you some layering. Throw pillows would also help. Definitely a large piece of art behind the couch. I think you can keep the coffee table, just give it some styling...maybe a lovely coffee table book, a bowl or basket to stow remotes in and I'd say lovely flowers, but I'm guessing this is a bachelor pad, so something that brings you joy to look at. The table under the tv could use some styling, as well (vases, houseplant, books, etc. grouped together). It's so far away from the tv, that the two don't relate to each other and look a little awkward. Even bringing the tv down would help with that.

Sorry, I just saw the throw pillows...they're so dark they blend in. Need a little contrast. Also, yes, I think drapes would help finish the space. You will need a long rod, though to cover the sliders, and keep a cohesive look.

I was going to mention the same thing about a console table/lamps...just wasn't sure how much space was between the tv wall and the couch wall....can you give us measurements?

Thanks for all the feedback! There is 17 feet from the couch wall to the TV wall, so I have room to move the couch out from the wall. I could move it out just enough to put lamps in each corner. Not sure about putting a console table behind the couch though - would it be strange to have a table behind the couch that backs up to the wall?

For the rug, I agree it may be a little too small - it's a 5'x'8 rug. What size should I go with since I don't want it to be too big?

Finally, I plan to add some curtains with a long rod. Any suggestion on the color or type of curtains?

Also, I am definitely looking to put a larger horizontal painting over the couch. And I would ask if I should consider in the corner by the TV instead of putting the lamps behind the couch

How many of you live here and how many of you watch this tv together on a daily basis? My idea, which would work if it is mainly you: Turn the sofa 90 degrees and float it in the middle of the room across from the sliders. This would take care of a number of awkward situations you currently have going on: The lounge part of your sectional is blocking the slider and looks like a mistake, the sofa just looks too big for the corner it is in, and 17 feet is a super long distance away from the tv. If you tried my suggestion, you could still sit watch TV, but mostly sitting on the lounger part, which would then face the tv. Rearranging furniture if free. I'd give it a try.

Instead of buying a new rug I'd first try pulling yours out so it's in front of the couch. The couch legs don't need to be on the rug. I also think a console would be nice. If you get a streamlined one with no drawers I think it'd be fine right at the wall.

17 feet seems like enough to pull it out and to the right some (where the chair is). I really don't think you have room for lamps on either side... the couch is already big and I don't think you really have that much space without it looking cramped. I think you get your couch/table set first, then talk chair/rug/accessories. I would not buy curtains until the rug is decided (hopefully a larger one).

What about something like this layout....you would have to remove the chair entirely though. Pull the couch out and to the right. Instead of an end table, you could use something like the small metallic table and totally eliminate the coffee table -- I know..I know you just bought it :-(

Another option is to put a very slim console table behind it and artwork right between (eliminate the tall lamp).

These aren't exactly the right examples of a sofa table backed up to the wall, but they'll give you an idea. The bottom example is a shelf between the sofa and the wall.

You can find console tables that are only 9 inches deep and you could still leave the couch where it is. I see you have a door to the left and that could make pulling the couch out too far a problem. I you have the console table you could put two lamps and a painting. That would look nice.
