Is this rug to small?

I fell in love with is this rug. Does the chairs legs need to be on the tug also? Also should I buy a console table to go behind the couch in front of the window?

I can't comment on the size of the rug but I will suggest you get side tables and lamps for both your sofas or a console table for the window sofa with lamps and end tables for the other sofa. You need more than just overhead lights in living room. Overhead lighting is not flattering.

Try the rug in the other direction.

Emmarene thanks for your suggestion but if I turn the rug the other way then the fdon't feet of the sofas will not be on the rug. The rug can be returned. Do you think the rug is too small the way it is?

I don't think the color works anyway, but I agree, it is a pretty rug.

Thanks Barbara but then the rug does not reach the front legs of the couch. I guess the only thing to do is find a larger rug.

It is small, but you can always put it on top of a larger sisal rug if you really like it and want to keep it.

Mirror the cabinet ends beside the window. There's no point in reducing stair age space.
p.s. Mirror the wall above the window as well.

I hope you have a resident massage therapist to treat the necks of people who try to watch such a ridiculously high TV. TV and art should be at SEATED EYE LEVEL.

Jbtanyderi.. I am not quite understanding. Are you suggesting I mirror the walls?

It's known as the Wishbone chair. It's still available from the original manufacturer and in various knock-off versions. Check the DWR (Design Within Reach) site.

Jbtanyderi. There is no tv in this photo!

You have options with this size rug.

Beverly FLADeziner what would you suggest as the best layout for this room?

Dela, ignore Jbtanyderi. Those comments belong on another post. Houzz has been having this problem for awhile.

Beverly's 3rd option appeals to me because the dark chairs will have contrast when placed forward onto the carpet's edge.

Put the sofas on the rug... Both of them. I am assuming the colors all work together. The rug is feminine so keep that in mind with accessories. You can find a very inexpensive sofa table. Put a lamp on it, a few books and something that shines ( picture, vase, a plate on a holder...) now, what color do you want to use. Make up your mind and search for things in that shade. I like soft teal. My pillows, a picture frame, small vase, large tray are in the teal family. Then do drapery panels. If you purchase ready made, but two for each side. You will never close them but they provide a substantial frame for the Windows. Depending on the total picture, you can hang them covering however much of the window you want covered, or make everything look larger and barely cover the edge of the glass.

Annerchibald the 2 sofa front legs are on the rug. Do you mean the 4 legs on the rug? The colors I am using are plum with gold accents. I just purchased a gold and glass rectangle coffee table. My window treatment is done as seen in the picture with two panels on each side and sheers in the middle.

And still in search for an inexpensive sofa table in gold with glass top. Thanks for your help.

Your rug size is fine. I would just switch the sofa closest to your kitchen with the two chairs. So your two sofas make an L shape, and the chairs have their backs to your kitchen. Your rectangular coffee table can then be in front of the sofa on the wall. I would also add a floor lamp or table lamp to the room.

Agree with rotating the rug and bringing the sofas closer. Can you post a pic of the new layout to see if it works?

Love your room. Haven't read other comments....what if you turned the rug to run with the length of the sofa? At least give it a try?

The sofas seem too far apart. If you add a coffee table (unless it's gigantic) sofa sitters will not be able to reach it. A coffee table needs to be about 18 inches from the sofa to be useful. Can you pull the sofas in and still have room for the black chairs? Maybe get a more narrow table for between the chairs.

Thank you Leelee! I will try it and post pictures. Maybe I can move the table in between the chairs elsewhere.

Beautiful rug! If you keep the sofa in front of the window and then the other one against the wall ( L shaped ) the room will feel more open to the dining area. The occasional chairs can float in the room. Place end tables with lamps on either side of the wall sofa. Lamps are important as overhead lighting (hag lighting) in not too flattering. Beautiful space and furniture!

Frugal Parisian thank you. Do you think the rug will work the way it is if I move the couch and chairs?

My plans are to get lamps. I was thinking on getting a sofa table to put behind the sofa in front of the window.

Yes Dela, the rug will work fine as it is.

I'd like to see the room with the chairs in front of the drapery panels. This allows the addition of an end table with table lamp & floor lamp in the corner.

I purchased a rectangular gold and glass coffee table already. Will that work if I move sofa to the wall?
