Do no do not place sofa in front of fireplace. People ar suggesting a set up like Blenheim suggested above...making an entrance "hall" with the back of the couch.

rotate the couch so the back is along the wall to the left when you enter, hope that makes sense? move TV to left or right of fireplace.

So I my phone was being dumb and posted this question twice. Some people on the other thread mentioned that.

I can't move the TV to the same side of the fireplace. Past the fireplace (to the right of it) is how I get to the kitchen and dining area. It's the only way I can access both.

Can you move the sofa to face the window, and put the TV on the right or left of the window? On the left, it would be in the corner at an angle. A couple of people on this thread have suggested that.

BTW, you think you don't know what you're doing, but it looks like you have a great start to me.

I love big art pieces. You only need one or two, looks better than lots of little artworks. More impact and great in small rooms. Etsy online have lots of art at affordable prices. Even those big clocks look great. Your room feels rustic

But you need to get the TV and sofa in a good place first, then think about tables (end table(s) and/or sofa table), table or floor lamps, shelf where TV is now. Depends on where you put the sofa, either closer to the door or closer to the fireplace. I think your sofa will go right against the wall near the door, and you won't have room for an end table there. That will give you a nice wide pathway between the lounge end of the sofa, and the fireplace.

I like the idea of the lounge portion of your sofa being near the fireplace. Even if you don't get comfortable with a book in front of a roaring fire, it looks as if you could, and that's a welcoming feeling. You'll also be facing the window - and it's so pleasant to have a view of the sky when you're sitting on your main piece of furniture.

Don't buy anything until you have arranged your existing furniture to your satisfaction, and then lived with it for a bit. That gives you time to know which seat needs better light for reading, where you need another place to set down a glass, whether you want to switch the TV to the opposite side of the window etc. You have the basics so no rush.

Partim: I'll probably have to measure a bit and do a little rearranging to see how it looks. For what it's worth, my chaise can't be switched to the other side it's currently on. If I moved the couch to face the window, would I need a sofa table? Or could I just get away with exposing the back of the sofa? I don't think you'd want the chaise on the other side. It should be on the side close to the fireplace.

You don't have to have a sofa table -you can just have the back of the sofa exposed. Look at some of the photos above in bleinheimnewzealand's post above in the thread. None of those photos shows a sofa table.

UPDATE: I switched the room around tonight. Sorry for the mess - I haven't put everything back yet but took some pictures to show everyone. Might give it a day or so to test drive it. Also, sorry for my horrible lighting. Better?

hi again. looks ok, and do give it a try for a while, but it seems to me by rotating the sectional 90º clockwise, the overall space will seem larger, knee space to coffee table can be increased, and the seating area will be connected to the fireplace (tv will need to be moved to the left of the fp)

How does it feel? It looks good from what I can see. Do the spaces feel tight or are they comfortable? Maybe stand in the farthest corners of the room and see if you can give us a few different views. Test drive it for a few days.

Love the 'entry hall.' Can we see how the fireplace relates?

It feels weird and different right now. Seems a lot smaller too (my new little "hallway" is about 56" wide). But I think I can get used to it. It was late when I did this and I hate waking up to a mess so I set everything up after I took those photos and temporarily put things away just so it wasn't a mess when I woke up. Here's some "updated photos" with a better shot of my fireplace.

does the couch fit along the wall where the art is? If so, I would put it there and put the TV where you have books/lamp.

The new arrangement looks temporary (like you're moving, remodeling, etc.). Just being honest. If you want an entry, try the sofa opposite the fireplace and add a narrow table to the left of the sofa.

@er612, I don't think it would be comfortable to turn sideways to watch TV, with the media cabinet to the side. And I don't think there is room to the left of the fireplace either.

Hard to say without being in the room but I like the new look. One alternative would be to put a chair where the TV is in the corner, and put the TV above the new bookshelf location, on an articulating arm so it could be turned a bit, towards the sofa.

Go back to the way you originally had it! Just move the rug the way everyone suggested and move the couch out from the wall a little so you could add a side table to the right. If you can mount the tv and get a cabinet that hides the clutter. The new arrangement makes the space a lot smaller. But It doesn't look bad too mean looks like a very comfortable Bach pad!

er612 - There's no room to the left of the fireplace. And the TV is too big to mount on the fireplace too. Only place it fits is in that corner.
jojaszcz - That new little entry way is about 50" wide so the living room is now about 4' smaller. But I feel that there's still plenty of room, so it doesn't feel too cramped. Aside from the fireplace being there, it's a fairly open floor plan. I'm going to give it a week or two to see how I like it. I had the other set up for about a year so this feels very, very different and kind of weird right now.

Pictures can only tell so much of the story. You need to be in the room.

If you decide to have the sofa facing the fireplace, as er612 drew out above, there is another option for the TV, as I suggested above - an articulating arm. You would mount it to the right of your window, above where your low bookshelf is now. Then swing it out and angle it towards you to watch it.

I really don't like the sofa in this new position - it seems very restrictive and limiting in terms of access to the seating area (you only have this narrow path between the wall/fireplace and the lounger to get in or out of the sofa).

If you cannot have the sofa face the fireplace then I think the sofa should go back to its prior position. Do turn the rug like suggested by everyone else.

It's coming along! Could you move the bench from the right side of the window over along the new entry way wall (it would be to your right as you walk in the door). With a bit of art above it and a nice runner rug in front of it, it would give the entry some definition.

The basket of blankets could be moved closer to the fireplace then, at a 45* angle.

The TV isn't feeling quite right - maybe it needs a lower, more substantial stand, something more bench-like that could extend under the window.

Would there be room to pull the couch away from the wall a bit? Might give it a bit of breathing room and make it feel less like you are jammed against the wall if you are sitting at that end. Bonus points for a small end table and lamp!

First thought was to do what you've done--flip the couch and tv. Looks ok, but I'd like to see it as jojaszcz suggested. Center the couch on the window, and pull it out away from the window wall. Maybe a skinny sofa table behind it also. Turn the rug to match the length of the couch. Mount the tv on the wall and add a console table. Probably have room to the left of the door (as you walk in) for a small chair or table to dump your keys/wallet/etc.

True Design House - you've pretty much summed up what I thought I should do next (assuming I keep this set up). Am I right to assume you feel this new set up works best? Originally, I had the bench in the corner, running long under the window a bit. The TV was on one end but then I switched it. I could move it back. Maybe put a small plant on it as well. Regardless, the TV will stick out a little over that window, which is on because it's 60" long so it's not like it's blocking it at all.

You need to decide what feels right to you. As far as where the TV goes etc, there are lots of options and you'll figure out what is best, once you decide on the basic feel of the room.

Personally I don't like a furniture arrangement that is too open. To me that feels like a public space, not a home space. My house has some long rooms and the furniture is arranged into smaller groups. It feels more friendly and human-sized to have a more cozy arrangement.

One of the things I like about the current arrangement is that your home now has an entrance way, and that you need to go around a bit to enter the living area. To me it makes it more home-like and friendly. And the TV is not so far away.

I see that some people prefer a more open arrangement. That feels, to me, like I'm not in a comfortable, sheltered place.

You'll decide for yourself what feels right for you, but give it some time to decide, since it's quite a change. No rush.

Like I said before though, your original layout works. I would just turn the rug and add a TV stand with closed storage.

If you don't want to sit sideways to watch tv, like in the example above, then go back to your original arrangement and just rotate the rug. Having that long tunnel when you come in the door looks odd and takes away usable space in the room.

Can you pull couch down away from door? Or tv on wall on left of fp. Put it above the books.

First, i don't know if anyone said it, but to me the oil can in the corner is overdo on industrial. so much dark, i like to add a little metal that shines.

just a little bit in your face. that goes for now on the end of the chaise, because friends are gonna lean against the wall and will need that there. i would rather change the other out 2 but i grant you your need for storage. a touch of your industrial or how about a touch of humorhow did we get here

@partim - Sorry for the VERY delayed response. Here's the final product. I really like it. Btw, that ceiling fan will be replaced in the spring once it starts to warm up again.
