Thanks, Caleb. For some reason, I feel like a smaller rug would "divide" the room - if that makes sense. That's why I placed the rug this way, to sort or "pull the room together". Is this a wrong way of thinking?

No, I definitely see what you're saying. I'm digging the floors you have in the room so I would look to show them off more. But I understand where you're coming from.

Could you try turning the rug and putting it further under the couch?

Any thoughts of something I can do with the wall that currently has that picture in the gold frame. I put that there temporarily. Can decide if I should put some more artwork? Or a long shelf? It's been bugging me for a really long time.

I like your style. What is the black thing behind the couch? Also, it would be nice to replace the bench crowded with books under the TV with a short bookshelf maybe? So the books would look like they belong there. Even just one of those cube shelf horizontally could work.

I would say find an art piece you like. Shelves are cool but sometimes they end up looking cluttered or random with what gets put on them. That all depends on what you plan to put on them though.

If you have things you want to display, go for the shelf. If not, you could do a cool trio of black and white photographs in black frames there. Also, the art to the right of the couch seems a bit small for that space.

Have you thought about repositioning your sectional so it faces the fireplace?

You could do a long shelf along that whole wall, then add coat hooks under it near the door. you could move the bench from under the TV to that wall (if it fits), so you have a little entryway for coats and shoes.

Emily: what black thing are you talking about? If it's between the couch and fireplace, it's an old steel end table that had a light on it.
Jacqueline: the fireplace is really just decoration. I don't use it. And if I did that, my TV would be off to the side.

I forgot, Emily, I really should get a proper media console. I needed something to put my tv on so my friend and I made this bench/tv stand out of an old fence.

Emily: you're right, I really should clean it up. Next to the couch is a black, steel end table. It has a top with a small shelf underneath.

I wouldn't push the sectionals against the wall instead i move them towards the center let all legs on the rug. This approach really does work in most situations; the rug connects the
various furniture pieces together (in this case your coffee table and side table) while extending far enough into the
room to create a sense of good proportion. For the corners, you could try to place some tall potted plant/s. Next to the main door (adjacent) you can have a console table where it can take on new purpose. Good luck ;)

The fireplace is gorgeous and would make an awesome focal point for the room. the current setup doesn't allow for a proper entry way into the home as in and out traffic is cutting in front of the tv.

You have great floor very nice sectional to create a cozy living room,but I think the display should be different,
Turn the sofa to the other wall and the additional one under the window,coffee table will follow the biggest size and keep the rug as is .than shelves,some books and decorations stuff would help a lot

Betty: So you're saying pull the couch out so it's not leaning up against the wall? If I did that, I could only pull it out about a foot.

Emily: that's a window. The blinds are just closed because I took the picture at night.

Don’t push all your furniture up against the walls. Pull your sofa out at least 12” from the wall. It will make the space
seem more inviting and cozy, instead of creating a big bunch of weird
dead space in the middle. By doing so I hope you have about 3 feet of walking space around the room. Hope this helps.

Thanks, Betty. I've been toying with that idea or turning the section around, so it faces the window, floating in the room in front of the door. So when you enter/exit, you walk behind the couch

I liked it better the way you had it. I personally don't like having the TV in the corner and we tried a similar setup in our house and it feels like walking into a hallway at the entrance.

Kudos to you for moving your furniture around and posting pictures! We love that!! Honestly, I'd keep it the way you had it originally, but turn the rug the other direction.
