Can I ask some annoying questions? 1. Do you dogs dig anyway? Do they dig everywhere, all the time? If not, is there something that attracts them to your garden area? My dog dug up my tomato plants one year, but only one year. Never did figure that one out. 2. A better fence. 3. Give them a cat to play with every morning and they'll leave your garden alone. Okay, maybe not a cat. Give them some toys of some kind to chew and play with so your garden looks boring.

Perhaps make them their own dig spot, and then get a can of pet Off, a dog whistle (to scold them when they're in the wrong area), or electric fence.

The fence won't hurt them, just VERY unpleasant (I touched one by accident once), and once or twice, is all they'll need, to be wary of it.

They have some at Walmart for around $75.00, that will give you a good area. Also, tie colorful plastic ribbons to mark the wire, If they get shocked, they'll associate the fluttering ribbons with the shock, and not go near ribboned wire.

Then, in the future, you can put wire around other areas, with ribbons on it, and the dogs probably won't go near it, even if it's not charged.

If you're financially challenged, perhaps you can build a fence out of pallets no one wants. Also, try checking out your local freecycle, which may offer free boards, fencing, or maybe even old doors that you could use, for fencing.

Check the Free category on your local Craigslist as well.

If you can get a hold of a dog kennel no one wants, I've seen people put their gardens in them, if you want the dogs to run free.
