Please .... I really need help for open entryway

Moving into a new home and trying to figure out what to do with the entryway. I plan on changing the light fixture but other than that I'm at a loss.

The right of the entryway is an open plan room (kitchen, living room and dining).

Note only visitors will use this entry as we have a large mudroom off of the garage that we will use daily.

Note box and painting are staged items (not mine)

I always like a good-sized mirror by the front door. A very narrow table or bench would be good, too. I'd be inclined to replace the flooring if possible. Can you match the flooring in the living area?

Is there a nearby coat closet for guests? If not, maybe find a nice coat rack.

That's a tiny space! And nothing welcomes guests like having them try to navigate a tiny space filled with furniture and decor without breaking any of it. So I vote to put up a large artwork, on the entry wall, a rug on the floor, and that's it. If you must have a bench or table, put it around the corner where the stool is in the photo.

Then again, you could put in a single chair.

I agree with teamaltese. One big art on the wall or a wall coat rack. A nice colorful rug.

If you find there's not quite enough room for hall tree 'behind' the door, what about around corner under window? If there's space, considering your LR is there ... but I think it could fit on the tile .... and nice rug.

Q - ceiling light - is it centered over tiled area? or over toward the back wall? so that it could seem too tight against a unit... as child we had these. I 'hear' the poster about knocking things over - would this get knocked over coming down stairs?

I like the look of something like this for entryways.

Cute for $133: "8 hooks for scarves, leashes, or handbags. Mirrored top section swivels 360 degrees." hmm!! who says it has to look cheap either....

I can understand your enthusiasm to get started, but I think maybe you are starting in the wrong order. I'd work on your living areas, see how that takes shape in terms of style, color, etc.... then translate that to items that will fit in your entry without impeding traffic flow. (as others have said, art or mirror + rug). A semi-flush statement light fixture will add much-needed drama. I'd look for a rug that covers most of the tile. Also, on your staircase, if budget allows - consider painting the spindles and base in white, with maybe black handrail and newel post. I've done this on numerous 80s staircases and it really modernizes their look. A medium sized canvas artwork with a white primary and hints of orange and red would tie the elements of the space together! Feel free to browse my projects for ideas! Maybe something like the piece below without the chair and with more white in the composition? Feel free to message me if you have any questions!

Maybe including some of our entrance way design photos, you might find some ideas?

Hi there- there is a lot of neutrals going on in this space and they all seem to run together so I have a few recommendations. Let's 'anchor' the room area by introducing a little bit of black color to the room. How about painting the handrail area on the stairway a glossy black? Just the rail top. It will make the area stand out a little. Then I would put a vertical piece of molding on the side wall to where the ceiling ends just before it goes up the stairs in the same neutral as the baseboards. Then I would do a large mirror/antique mirror tiles mirror that would take up about 3/4 of that foyer wall. It is almost impossible to put anything else on that wall as the door opening would hit practically anything else set behind there. Without knowing how much clearance there is under that exterior door, it is hard to say if you could put a rug there that would not catch on a rug every time the door is opened. I would opt for a really nice stone/ natural element floor that would look really nice but not interfere with the exterior door. I need more pictures to tell for sure, but you might be able to put an upholstered bench/ottoman/pouf on the wall under the stairs that could be useful for guests to sit and place things.
