Betta with molly in 2 gal?

Hi! I have my male betta in a 2gal right now and he's perky and doing fine. Problem is, friend's 10gal leaked this evening and she had one molly in there which I agreed to take to save etc, but I am very worried that I shouldn't put my betta and molly together. For now I've taken my boy out and put him in a jar and put the molly in to the 2gal to acclimate, but it's been hiding for the past 8 hours. My friend's getting another tank this weekend so this setup is semi-permanent. Should I try risking putting them together? I know some male bettas are more chill than others and despite it being a 2gal it has loads of nooks where one of the guys can hide. Normally I wouldn't because disaster may strike but I feel so bad keeping him in a 0.5gal jar (its the biggest container I have), which is obviously unfiltered/unheated etc. Do you think I should try putting them together, especially since the molly has shown itself to be terrified of its own shadow and very willing to hide all day?
