I have used it as mulch in two homes in different states, Texas and Indiana. I love it! It's a little harder to do transplanting in because you have to try to move most of it out of the way before you work in the area, but it's easy to move back into place. I find it easier to pull weeds with pea gravel mulch compared to wood mulch that can form a hard crust on the top and needs breaking apart.
One negative is that outdoor cats like to use it as a litter box more often and I have gone through stages where I have to try to deter cats until they learn my yard isn't worth it. (The same sprays that help deter deer and bunnies from eating tulips and other plants can help deter cats as well.)
