Master bathroom dilemma

We are renovating our master bath. It has been stripped to the studs. Biggest challenge so far is selecting tile for floor and shower. My husband and I love natural stone. We already have a slab of typhoon green granite for countertops. Now looking for floor and shower tile that coordinates. First question: is it crazy to consider maldive carrera marble? Reading that people steer away from marble because of maintenance and going with porcelain instead. But we cant find good porcelain we like and again we prefer the look of natural stone. Second question: do you think the marble we are considering will look ok with our granite?

I actually love that you chose your counter first and chose something you love, it gives you a good jumping off point. We did the same for our reno. Not sure I would combine granite with marble though. We did granite on our countertop and also (same granite remnant) on our bathroom threshold, shower threshold, and shower seat, as well as the top of knee walls at the ends of our tub. Then we found tiles that matched well but let the granite still be the star, and used that for the shower walls, and tiled the shower and around the tub - we ended up with 3 different tiles, one for floor, one for walls, and an accent tile (and I would definitely not go for more than 3).

If you post a picture of your granite you may get some specific ideas for colors etc.

I think you should have waited to choose counter after main tile was chosen , I have no idea of the size of the space but generally i like very few different tiles in a bathroom for an elegant look I think 2 stones that are so different would not be my choice and IMO porcelain large format tiles are very nice looking and easy to care for , I like to use the same for the floor and the shower walls and then a smaller tile same color for the shower floor ,There are some really nice grays in the granite you have chosen maybe something in that family to keep the granite being the star

I normally have customers choose their counter tops prior to tile, you're on a good start. I have an idea what your granite looks like but not sure about the stone tile you're speaking of, can you post some photos? I can recommend porcelain tiles that mimic marble and know a few off the top of my head that mimic cararra marble but I don't know what maldive cararra is.

A friend of mine had a good rapport with the fabricator who did her kitchen countertops. She wanted matching granite for her bathroom shower pan and vanity top. He scoured his boneyard for granite remnants and cut those into 2 inch square "tiles" for the shower floor. No charge for the granite...just the labor and that was very reasonable. Yes, the shower "floor" was higher than normal but, she got the look she wanted. There was virtually no slope to the shower drain.

The Typhoon granite is a wonderful statement right there. You might want to look at United Tile- Provenza: Q Stone. A great porcelain tile with a natural look.
