Do you have a pic of the shower?

I am thinking you could put up a half wall along the tub- this would create a natural break so maybe you could make the two floors work. I see the shower now- sorry. I would get rid of the toilet and the vanity can be painted with a new counter top. I think you could sell a lot of the fixtures to give you remodeling money. I see a light fixture that doesn't fit the space, the toilet, and the medicine cabinet. Paint the tub white and the walls a creamy off white. Hopefully something that doesn't make the white floors look dirty. I am hoping this neutralizes some of the different things going on. Keep things simple and it will go a long way to make the space feel better. If it were me the first thing to go would be that shower. Which if it was done right hopefully would just be a tile job.
