Kitchen countertop

I just had new cabinets installed in my mom's kitchen and planned to use the same laminate countertop, even had the installer measure for cabinets with this in mind. However, now that the cabinets are installed, we can't get the countertop back in place. It's too long to fit between the top & base cabinets. We should have placed it before they installed the top cabinets but it's too late now. I am looking for suggestions on how/where to cut and seam it back together without it being obvious. It is the side where the sink is located. Thanks!

We know this probably isn't the answer you want to hear, but it would be best to buy a new countertop, one that has been custom-cut for these cabinets. Trying to piece together an old, ill-fitting countertop *might* look cheap in the end. Of course, this is all budget-dependent, but laminate countertops are the most cost-effective option.

Unless the walls have shrunk, the top must go back in place. Are you trying to angle it in with the sink in place?

We will purchase a new countertop if needed but the one we have is in great condition and we don't want to wait 2-3 weeks on an order.

Joseph- No, we haven't installed the new sink yet. The countertop was removed after the former top cabinets were gone but now we don't have sufficient room because of the new top cabinets. I hope that makes sense..

It would be a lot easier to get a new counter top. I know Home Depot sells these ready to install and cut to size. Might be something to consider instead of using the old tops.

The countertop sits atop the base cabinets. Normally, it has nothing to do with the upper cabinets. Therefore, I agree with Joseph Corlett, it does not make sense.

I think it would help if we could see photographs of the countertop. Are the new cabinets more shallow than the older?

Are you trying to install it with the mites still joined? You have to pull it apart and then rejoin it. Which won't be all that easy if they glued the miters.

Get new counter I think this must be where it has to be angled to get back in so I get the upper cabinets creating a problem but really after getting new cabinets get a new counter

Yes, it has to be angled to get back in which is why the top cabinets are presenting a problem. Although new tops may be the best solution, we need to complete by Monday. A professional looked at it last night and is helping to cut and re-seam.
